Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
Jvvg wrote an essay on why. Although Za-Chary is definetly right I don't think we should just leave the essay out of bounds on questions like these, it explains loads on the side as well.
You can go to it from jvvg's signature or here: https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/User:Jvvg/Essays/Accessibility_preempts_aesthetics

Also,
Either get browser extensions — (Which you can't name due to a certain So, How can I turn purple to blue?policy.) or keep it purple.
They can literally get sued. Plus, HTML is hard to code with. Honestly I think making this mandatory is an awful idea I'm all for being more accessible, but why not make it toggelable or why not make it where ur able to change the color yourself? Don't force everyone to switch, that's stupid. same with forcing everyone to change to the new bad color scheme, make it toggleable

Alright people suggesting to turn back to blue, I have something to tell you here:
If you're suggesting for options to change theme and some other things, go discuss here, just so this doesn't accidentally become a flame topic:
https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/296027/
Scratch did reject changing from purple to blue, but this post I linked is the only chance that we get customizability on it. Please just discuss it there.
Cheers

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
because everything needs to be new or changed in this year!!!!!!!!
Probably because Scratch Team wants to help colorblind people, so they can easily use Scratch too. When I first saw my messages being purple, I felt like I had a mode for colorblind people on.
Personally, I think they should add a feature to change the colors to blue or purple, and the purple would be on by default.

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
I just came back after 2 days of not being in the platform and now scratch is purple, I was super confused, I was like “Wait a minute, scratch is purple now? why did they change it?” and I just came here to see why scratch turned purple, I mean.., I'm used to the original blue color but purple is okay I guess (purple is my fav color but I was not sure about the change)

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
I'm back on the platform after being off for about 3 days, and I'm greeted with purple! I love purple, but I miss the blue already. Purple is cool! My 2nd favorite color. :3 I mean, why was this decision made? Me and a bunch of others are pondering that as well.

What research is this exactly? The specific color of purple was chosen as a practical one, as the Scratch Team determined through research that it is the color which is the most helpful for those with vision impairments. So the color change is all for the sake of improved accessibility. This means that more people will be able to use Scratch!

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
A post here describes the process a bit more: What research is this exactly?https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/7338952/
Ultimately it involves looking through the WCAG and ADA guidelines, to my knowledge.

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
Yeah it should be that considering WCAG is a threat to Scratch without this stuff basically, atleast from what I can learn from wikipedia.A post here describes the process a bit more: What research is this exactly?https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/7338952/

It's a respectable decision since if Scratch suddenly blew up for a few days, they'd be gone from WCAG.

I really want this to turn back or add an option to turn it back. Now that I know it's not just me, I think we should start a petition. Agreed?
Anyways, I'm pretty sure the scratch team agrees with us a bit… So… scratch team?
PETITION TO BRING BLUE BACK: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/870578441/
when I receive [ Ask scratchteam]
repeat (until it changes)
say [We want blue back!]
end

Scratch was better when the colors were blue. - Obama, I guess
when green flag clicked
if <Scratchteam = cool> then
say [Uhh, yea we're adding blue back.]
end

Why did scratch want to change the color to purple?
I beg of you, PLEASE stay on topic. This is not a topic for dropping in with your opinions on the new update (try Suggestions instead for that), this is a question someone is asking about why scratch changed to purple. This forum is for Questions, not Opinions.
As for why, it's to help users with vision problems use the site more easily, since the original color scheme wasn't very friendly to users with vision problems, and additionally didn't fit some accessibility guidelines that websites have to follow in the US because of the ADA. That's also why they added a toggle for high-contrast blocks.
TL;DR: It was changed to make scratch more accessible.
