I had seen some people say purple is an ugly colour, some people said blue is too iconic, and some other excuses.
Honestly in my opinion. I'd be fine with the new purple update. And I'm glad that's the best colour so far because there could be worse things. But purple was not a bad choice.

When I heard about the new purple update the first thing I thought was bts the scratch wiki colour header and it was cool! So what's wrong with purple and why is it bad to some?

I mean…. There is another Scratch mod that also uses purple as the header. PictoBlox, I believe is the program. Though I think they use a darker shade of purple. It's still purple, and it's still Scratch. *Shrugs*

People just don't like change in general.

I've heard several complaints over the fact that the Remix button was made to be a darker shade of green — so I'm not surprised that some Scratchers are once again complaining over a simple color change.

Yeah. I'm tired of people only looking at the bad side of new features and complain about them for the dumbest reasons. But they are young. And younger people tend to be more used to something old than new. Though I am not a young child expert.

Yeah, I've seen someone literally say that Scratch should accept getting sued to not add this. I wish this was a joke.

Because another scratch mod also has a purple navbar, and people are likely worried about Scratch infringing on PictoBlox's copyrights? IDK just a guess

Not a social scientist, but there have been some studies that heavily suggest that the newest generation of kids and young adults is lacking heavily in social etiquette/sensitivity, largely due to a lower amount of face-to-face interaction to develop proper social skills, a consequence of the digital age. It's one of the weirder things we've had to deal with over the past decade-and-a-half as the older generation moved on and the newer generation moved in (and kinda sad; who knew that purple and green would result in in anger that would rival that when we did the change from 1.x to 2.0).

Yeah, my generation are whiny about everything. I mean, there are some things we can whine about that are actually bad but a colour change? Seriously? I honestly feel bad for you guys but I am very impressed at how you manage to get through all of this.

I personally don’t hate that they’re changing it. It’ll just take some getting used to, although I wish it was abled to be toggled like with the blocks.

I prefer blue, but I think I will get used to the new purple. Even thought I would be happy if there was an option.

To be honest, I’ve never had a problem with scratch’s new purple colour.

I mean I first joined scratch in October of 2020, and I’ve gotten used to the default purple colour,
However I do think it needs a change. Not that we could convince scratch team to do *, we just got to hope.
Plus I’ve heard about people saying that they gotten used to blue, and to be fair,
Blue is a better colour than purple, let’s be honest.


I think there is a chance scratch team could change their colour.
Think about this, scratch first appeared in 2003, though publicly launched in 2007.

Scratch 3.0 was released in 2019, however I went back to check when the purple colour first appeared on the website to see if it has happened before, to my knowledge, there were forum posts and documents talking about the new default purple colour.

So with this fact, 3.0 introduced the purple colour.

Now, here’s a theory, if the purple colour was introduced in 2019, and scratch went public in 2007, so let’s do the calculations.


2019 - 2007 = 12


So it took them 12 years to change the default colour (I could be wrong here)
So, we’re gonna have to wait 12 YEARS for the * colour to change.
Now let’s do the math…


2019 + 12 = 2031


We’re gonna have to wait until 2031 for the colour to change (again, I could be wrong here.)

my first though of the new purple colour was fnaf.. but i like purple.

Yeah, toggling would be great!

On one hand, purple's a cool color and I don't want to complain too much…
But on the other hand, blue is a lot less intrusive when you're trying to code.

I think the best medium would be a toggle between themes up by the contrast modes.

I don't care, honestly i think it looks a lot better with purple :]
