Is the November 1998 Scratch Build (0.0.1) creepypasta real?

I just stumbled upon this creepypasta like 30 minutes ago, and I'm very curious to see if it's real or not.

No because
Scratch started development in 2003 and not 1998

edit: its 2003

Creepypastas are fictional horror stories. It’s not true.

Could you link to any sources about this “creepypasta”?

LogoBlocks was a separate project to Scratch, but one of the developers would be a future ST member and Scratch developer and would further its goal in the form of Scratch.

So, it can be considered the direct precursor to Scratch.

AHAHAHAHAHA there's so many things wrong with this it loses any semblance of horror and crosses well into silly territory. I know many others have weighed in but I just couldn't stop myself from piling on.
> “a young man had the idea to create a program that would allow children to make games easily.”
the single most common misconception about Scratch ever. it's not meant specifically for games and it is not a purpose-built game engine. in fact, the ability to make animations, games, interactive stories, or whatever else you can think of is kind of a secondary objective - the primary one being teaching children basic programming concepts.
> “After 6 months, he got a prototype working. A few months later, he compiled it onto a floppy disk and tested it. The floppy disk was orange…”
yadda yadda superfluous detail about the disk and its insertion into the computer. also, what? he spent 6 months making this prototype and then waited a few more months just to test it for the first time?
> “After testing it the adults left the room and starting drinking coffee.”
what's with this second adult that materializes literally out of nowhere and serves no role in the story? and who leaves an end user alone with their first build of a very janky prototype software? if I were him, I would want to watch them use it or at least ask them about their experience, since the UI/UX of a first prototype would probably not be great and users would probably have trouble finding things, if they didn't break the software outright.
>“Suddenly, they heard (REDACTED) scream. They burst into the room, only to discover that the child was gone and the screen was dark.”
then suddenly, OH NO!!! thE cHIld JuST suDdENly diSAPPEaREd ANd THe ScREEN wAS OfF!! SO sP00Ky!!!1 like, there isn't ANY investigation, no involvement of the police or the kid's parents, no attempt to figure out what happened, not even a gruesome description of some Scratch-cat demon with hyper-realistic blood jumping out of the monitor and doing something awful to the kid?
unfortunately, the attached project is unshared and Scratch projects can't be saved on the Wayback Machine due to how they load and how the Wayback Machine saves pages (there's one capture, but it won't even load, due to Scratch's heavy dependence on external JavaScript files), so it's probably lost to time.

also, the very Scratch Wiki article you linked to earlier in this topic deeply contradicts this story in many ways, and backs its assertions up with references. the development of Scratch and its precursors has always been a formalized thing undertaken as a research project by university students/graduates and occasionally backed by grant money, not just something made by Some Guy In His Garage.

No, Scratch development didn't start yet, it was LogoBlocks instead, which appears to be made in something different than 0.x and 1.x.
Also, it's completely fake, the earliest Scratch build was in June 2003. The earliest one we have is October 2003.

Here are things that are wrong with the article

First thing as we already know:
Scratch didn’t start development until 2003

Second thing:
If it was in 1998 that would be 0.0.8

Third thing:
Scratch Cat was created not because of the kid

Fourth thing:
The project is not here

Final thing:
That creepypasta isn’t even scary

I don’t even think the scratch founders went to MIT in 1998
Could be wrong though

(Also maybe scratch started before they went there but again I forgot)

Sounds highly cliche. From what the main page of that wiki explains, it's probably fake.

Never have i ever thought that i would agree with you

Anyways the writer of said creepypasta could have probably benefitted the with use of the Enter Key
Though i wouldn't reccomend excessive use of it…
