Tone tags?

Anyways, yeah as Za-Chary said he found 38 of them but I think only 2 (srs and j) are important, I have no idea what /gen means and I didn’t know what /hj meant either until I saw this post. /j and /srs are at least slightly understandable and self explanatory

The list I gave above seems to have 38 — not a hundred — and even then, I usually only see less than 10 used in practice (and there are less than 10 pen blocks).

Furthermore, also like the pen blocks, you don't have to use tone tags if you don't want to.
yeah… No one is forcing you to use them. You don't have to be so arrogant. /gen

That’s what you think, but people will pressure you to use it (like I said)
Help- help! I'm being pressured to program by people who haven't even told me to!

Are people currently pressuring you to use tone tags?

No because I don’t post in places where people usually use tone tags. I post on my own profile and some other peoples profiles and on the forums.

Then what gives you the impression that people will pressure you to use tone tags if this suggestion were implemented?

I know /gen means “genuine” — although admittedly I'm not sure when one would use /gen over /srs.

Did I say me? Nono, I meant people will pressure everyone to use them.

Exactly why I said kids won’t be able to understand the tone tags. It would be too complicated for them. Like I said, /srs and /j are understandable and are at least kind of self explanatory, tags like /hj and /gen are unnecessary, complicated, and would clutter up the website with useless tone tags.

I use /gen alot and the main ones, but maybe we could remove the unecessary, but if not we could add meanings to them if you type /

That would likely/probably get annoying quickly. As i showed there. A / can mean a lot more than a tone tag.

I think a better idea is that you can hover over a tone tag to see what it means. If you are using a tone tag, you likely already know what it means, so having a menu bring up a bunch of tone tags doesn't really seem necessary. But other people reading it might not know. So just highlight tone tags in some color to show you can hover over it, and when you do, it shows what it means.

either way I find this suggestion a waste of scratch teams time, since most tags require at most 4 buttons ( one / and three letters ) if you wanna know what it means google is pretty good at that

if you want to know what it means, google is the best way to figure it out
I think its a waste of time for the ST to find out what every indicator means and then program a drop-down list for this already very niche suggestion

If they ask politely, it should be fine. If they're harassing you about it, report it silently.

No, it's not what I mean. Scratch is not the same as other social medias.

Who here knows what /nbr means?

That's what I thought.

There are people like me who don't know what some tone indicators mean, so if they were added as a dropdown menu in comments, people who aren't autistic or don't use/understand tone indicators would get confused over their meanings. /nm

Which is why the OP suggested that the meanings are also added to a dropdown menu in comments, so you can directly find the meaning whenever someone uses a tone tag.
