Implement a kid-friendly user-friendly Scratch YouTube for tutorials.

READ BEFORE POSTING ANYTHING HERE!

Scratch YouTube would be the future for a new feature of posting and commenting on a tutorial that is moderated, and would also allow uploading anything (as long as it is appropriate by ST's guidelines) to show what the world can do to make Scratch a better coding environment for everyone!

This would help out with the majority of scratchers who want to make tutorials to teach new or existing Scratch users on the website (Or atleast in the website's forums maybe). It could also be useful to feature new tutorials on what to code to prevent any confusion with tutorials in projects since people never read or look at the project pages a whole lot.

It would also help prevent scratchers from also breaking the Community Guidelines if you make a video about them, people watch a lot of stuff on the original YouTube website and app.

What I think of is that ST should add a kid-friendly and user-friendly Scratch version of YouTube should be added under the statement of Scratch Team considering to implement a fully functional forums YouTube discuss player link. So why not implement a whole different website based off YouTube and suggesting it to Google? This would make tutorials go through a lot faster instead of making a separate video on YouTube about them if beginners don't know how to make YouTube videos or aren't allowed to.

I don't know if this is rejected for sure, but I hope not.

Why not just use the current versions of Scratch or YouTube to share tutorials?

Because that is really confusing and complicated to do for new users, plus beginners use school computers to do so and they can't download certain things from the foundation.

If YouTube is too complicated for someone, how would Scratch YouTube be any less complicated for them? And, if Scratch is too complicated for someone, why would they be making Scratch tutorials in the first place?

The Scratch Team would create and implement a lesson library on how to do certain coding or how to videos for the feature.
Because some people just want to help teach kids how to code, Scratch is about teaching kids how to code and do other things. btw.

That doesn't help a whole lot though, people just skip the tutorials, and they don't learn anything after doing so.

Because there’s no easy way to share videos over scratch

The best you can do is turn the video into a gif, import it, play the gif, and then play the audio separately and that looses a ton of video quality because of scratch compression

That's their fault, nothing we can do about it.

No support, does the ST even have the resources for this? Making a tutorial will be hard no matter what way you do it. If you genuinely want to help others, put in the effort, and watch your efforts pay off.

This also would be in the Scratch version of YouTube as well since Scratch is about coding, and making stories, games, tutorials, and animations.

I think ST would have the resources to do this if they could find a better way to make it implement into the official website and on the front page.

If your suggestion were implemented, people would still skip the tutorials.

You don't need to import a video into Scratch just to make a tutorial. Just make an animation or a slideshow in a Scratch project. Alternatively, make a YouTube video on YouTube and share a link to it on Scratch.

You don't need to import a video into Scratch just to make a tutorial. Just make an animation or a slideshow in a Scratch project. Alternatively, make a YouTube video on YouTube and share a link to it on Scratch.

The original links aren't hyper-links and are off the Scratch platform, plus, people don't copy/paste links into the search url bar anymore because they think it's too much.

Oh. Well, maybe that's just me, but some kids don't know how to do it though, so making this possible will eliminate that issue if it happens.

Why do we need a scratch youtube? If it's for the tutorials page then sure it would work. I'm not understanding this because it's too much of a long post and I would love a TD;LR.

Sorry about the long post. This is suppose to feature the Community Guidelines and to teach people how to do things here on Scratch.

Just found this - I was wondering why you had asked me about Scratch YouTube in my comments. I'll post my comment here:

I wrote:

Seems complicated. Scratch isn't really a place to host videos. People have gotten by just fine by using YouTube to look up guides. Like what @griffpatch does. It would be good to prevent people from going off site though.

Guess I should use the signature for explaining myself rather than Skyrim quotes. So hi. I'm Gator.

Metal albums I like:
* From Mars to Sirius - Gojira
* Citadel - Ne Obliviscaris
* With All Their Might - Dyscarnate
* Ghost Reveries - Opeth
* Monarchy - Rivers of Nihil

I don't get why the Scratch Team has to be forced into participating in tutorials; it seems to me that most of it is heavily fluently controlled by the community. There are many tutorials that follow upon one singular field in Scratch because of vast diversity in the Scratch community.
