Hacking - What is hacking and how you can stay safe from cyber-hackers

Everything You Need to Know About Hacking

Hacking is the act of gaining unauthorized access to a computer system, network or digital device with malicious intent. Hacking can have devastating consequences, ranging from data theft to financial loss and even physical harm in some cases. In this post, we will cover the different types of hacking, how hackers gain access to systems, and how to protect yourself from cyber attacks.

Types of Hacking

There are three main types of hacking: ethical hacking, black hat hacking, and gray hat hacking.

Ethical Hacking

Ethical hacking, also known as penetration testing, is a type of hacking done with the permission of the system owner. The objective of ethical hacking is to identify vulnerabilities in the system and report them to the owner. This type of hacking helps organizations identify weaknesses in their security systems and take measures to fix them.

Black Hat Hacking

Black hat hacking is the most malicious type of hacking. It involves gaining unauthorized access to a system with the intent of stealing data, disrupting the system's normal functioning, or causing harm. Black hat hackers often use advanced techniques to breach security measures and avoid detection.

Gray Hat Hacking

Gray hat hacking falls between ethical and black hat hacking. Gray hat hackers identify vulnerabilities in a system and notify the owner. However, they may also use the information for personal gain, such as demanding a ransom for the information.

How Hackers Gain Access to Systems

Hackers use a variety of techniques to gain access to systems, including:

Phishing

Phishing is a technique where hackers send fake emails or messages that appear to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or social media platform. The message often contains a link to a fake login page, where the victim is asked to enter their login credentials. The hacker then uses this information to gain access to the victim's account.

Brute Force Attacks

Brute force attacks involve trying multiple passwords until the correct one is found. This technique is often used on weak passwords that are easy to guess.

Malware

Malware is software designed to gain unauthorized access to a system or network. Malware can take the form of viruses, trojans, worms, or ransomware.

How to Protect Yourself from Cyber Attacks

Protecting yourself from cyber attacks involves taking several measures, including:

Strong Passwords

Use strong passwords that are difficult to guess and avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.

Two-Factor Authentication

Enable two-factor authentication for all your accounts to add an extra layer of security.

Update Software

Keep your software up-to-date with the latest security patches to fix any vulnerabilities.

Be Wary of Phishing Scams

Do not click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources.

Use Antivirus Software

Install antivirus software on your system to detect and prevent any malware infections.

Limit Personal Information

Avoid sharing personal information online and only provide it to trusted sources.

In conclusion, hacking is a serious threat that can have severe consequences. By understanding the different types of hacking, how hackers gain access to systems, and how to protect yourself from cyber attacks, you can ensure the security of your digital assets. Stay safe online!

Hacking technically means anyone who uses a computer in an unintended way IIRC. I think i saw it in a SOG video.

true ngl ☠️☠️☠️

scratch doesn't have 2fa so it might not work

also there's more to hacking than what is listed… hackers like to read lots and lots of documentation to find any sort of potential weakness, like for example, if you email someone, you send your ip address to them ☠️☠️☠️

Hello! It's great that you want to help out other Scratchers. However, I think we have enough guides in the forums at the moment. Please feel free to welcome new Scratchers on the group welcoming topic or on individual topics created by New Scratchers.

Other places that can always use more helpful Scratchers like you, are the "Help With Scripts“ and ”Questions About Scratch" areas - please use them as designed, by responding to topics created by folks with problems to solve

Finally, a really good place for Scratch guides is the Scratch Wiki - check it out and see if it's something you might like to work on. They have a number of guides - and great organization.
