10 Game Ideas for New Scratchers

Here is a list of ten game ideas for new scratchers who have nothing to do,

10 GAME IDEAS FOR NEW SCRATCHERS:
Part 1: Basics
1. Dress-Up Games
Dress up games are simple, yet fun. They draw a crowd, if you know what tags to use.
2. Music Games
Although not technically games, if you put some pictures with music over it, these games
can be really interesting! If you put bouncy music and put moving pictures, that would also help.
3. Slideshows
If you have tons of pictures on your computer just waiting to be used, go ahead and make a
slideshow! They are fun and whacky, depending on what you make. Just choose a theme and start importing!
4. Food Games
Easier then you think, but not a baby's game, food games can be LOTS of fun. How many times have
you dreamed up a fantastically tall ice-cream? Or a crazy looking pie? What about your dream-come-true sandwich?
The more food varieties= the more fun!
5. Imported Videos
So, you can't import videos. Bummer………… but still, you can make your OWN videos. How? Well, make a sprite and put LOTS
of different costumes that resemble the same thing, but change slightly in each picture. Sort of like stop-motion. Have fun!
Part 2: More Than Basics
6. Store/Hotel/Museum
If you have been to another coding website, then you know enough about it to make something more complicated.
To make a store/hotel/museum; you must use the ‘elevator system’, which is basically like… well… let me show you.
use this block to make it where ‘when spacebar clicked= switch backdrop to elevator’. When the backdrop
is switched to elevator, your going to have the backdrop look like an elevator and the level buttons will have labels and numbers like
every other normal elevator. When those numbers are clicked on your keyboard, the backdrop will switch the whatever backdrop the
label reads (you can find more detailed explanations on the forums, or just experiment on your own).
7. Movie
Unlike a video, as mentioned above, a movie normally comes in episodes (on scratch). People make little cartoons that they make
into a series of little episodes, all focused on one particular story. Some movie ideas are:
I. Warriors
II. Magical Creatures
III. Dragons
IV. Pokemon
8. Simpler Games
Not nearly as complicated as a video game, simpler games are basically just ‘you walk around and complete quests or listen to
people talking’. Some games are even easier than that, in that, you walk around and save a kingdom by whenever you touch
something; it dissapears and you get a point on your score.
9. FLAPPY
Flappy is an excellant example of a ‘simpler game’. You just click the bird/Flappy (or any character you want to put in)
and make it move a few steps above. The obstacles are the only problem, when it comes to coding, but even those
‘little obstacles’ can be solved when you across them.
10. Video Games
Does anyone in your house have a device? I can guarantee that at least one person in your house has a device of
some sort (or you wouldn't be able to go on scratch). If you play games on your computer, ipad, ipod, itouch, ipad mini,
etc., you will have come across a game of some sort that resembles minecraft, skylanders (my brother plays it), infinity (another of
my brother's), mariokarts, and more! You may have noticed that they all are called Video Games. These are harder to
make on scratch, but, once you figure it out, it becomes second nature.

Thanks for reading my post, I hope it helps you get an idea for another game to make. Have fun scratching!

10 Game Ideas for New Scratchers

I think platformers are good, but I make a lot of them and now they are boring. But now I think stories are good, and sequels are very interesting (in my opinion).

10 Game Ideas for New Scratchers

Game Ideas:

On scratch you can make lots of different games! You can make a game about anything!. It could be about food, survival, parkour.
Read all the information below to inspire you (hopefully ):

Key Vocabulary
Repetition: programming construct which allows a group of instructions to be repeated a number of times, or until a certain condition is met
Variable: lets computer programs store, retrieve or change simple data. Typically thought of as a particular bit of the computer’s memory that holds a specific bit of data
Debug: correct mistakes in a computer program or algorithm
Program: sequence of instructions (or sometimes a set of rules) that can be followed by a computer
Input: data supplied to a computer, in this case the algorithm taken from the storyboard for the Animation
Output: information produced by a computer, in this case an animation

What makes a good Game?
Some games work better than others. What usually sets good games apart from the rest is that the level of challenge is just right (not too hard or too easy) and that there is some progression built in. Progression means the game gets harder as the user gets better at playing it.
How the user is expected to interact with the game and the context is also important. This could involve using fun characters or building a story around the game.

A good game will…
 allow players to progress through different levels
 offer challenge to players so that they can improve as they play
 have players input something and create an output
 be set in an engaging context.

Before you start, think about:
• what age group your game will be for
• the topic you will cover (for example, times tables or spelling)
• the questions you will set.

Let’s review
You have played and studied games and you have planned your own game.
We are now going to review each others’ ideas and give feedback.

Let’s do
1. Share your plans with another person.
2. Give each other feedback.
3. Share your work with another table.
4. Make any changes to your plans based on the feedback.

Let’s do
Now that you have played the games and described their algorithms, you are going to think about what makes a game good.

Let’s discuss
What sets a good game apart from other games?
You might want to think about the following:
• Progression
• Challenge
• Interaction
• Context

Let’s learn
The algorithms used are likely to involve a question, a response and feedback.

Let’s discuss
• Were both games you played based on the repeating pattern of question/response/ feedback?
• What was the feedback?
• Have you played other educational games based on this pattern?
• If so, what were they?

Let’s discuss
1. What computer games do you play?
2. Can you describe the algorithms that they are based on?
3. Look at examples of games in Scratch (click the images to open them).
4. What makes games enjoyable to play?
5. Can you create a list or mind map of criteria for an enjoyable game?
6. You can use the list as success criteria when you create your own game.

Let’s do
You will create your own game in this unit of work and will be working in pairs to do so.
In your pairs, think about the structure of your game. Answer the following questions to help:
1. What are the objectives in your game?
2. What sort of player is it intended for?
3. What are the game’s ‘rules’?
4. Is there any progression built into your game?
Write down your ideas.

Let’s do:
Record the algorithm for your game as a series of scenes on a storyboard, or as a flowchart.
Let’s review
Give each other feedback on game ideas and algorithms.
Revise your plans and algorithms according to that feedback if necessary.

Now you know what makes a good game, go over to scratch at: https://scratch.mit.edu/
