Way to block ban evasion on scratch
This suggestion is rejected. That is 100% not in tolors you made it up11.1 Blacklisting IP
It's a horrible suggestion. It would just block the problem instead of actually doing anything. Also what if someone uses VPN and get banned accidentally? Contact us takes weeks.
And the link goes to MY post

Also parents would argue that it's also against the law, so Scratch would be at risk for such legal issuesAlso infringing on privacy would probably be against the laws so… Scratch becomes a 13/18+ site or is taken downCollecting IPs is not against COPPA, but it is definitely an infringment

I mean, parents arguing isn't something to worry about unless there's some very good justification. In this case, it is definitely not against the law to implicitly use public IPsAlso parents would argue that it's also against the law, so Scratch would be at risk for such legal issuesAlso infringing on privacy would probably be against the laws so… Scratch becomes a 13/18+ site or is taken downCollecting IPs is not against COPPA, but it is definitely an infringment

a threat is a threat, however. So it is in best interest in case ST wants to prevent such threats they should not blacklist VPNs… Which would realistically failI mean, parents arguing isn't something to worry about unless there's some very good justification. - You can rarely get your IP grabbed just by visiting a HTTPS: site, RARELY ≠ IMPOSSIBLE!
- A threat is a threat, if a group of weird parents threatened to sue because this suggestion got implemented and go through with it, the ST will have countless lawsuits to deal with

Sorry, still a hard no support on this one

In fact, you can search “My IP address” on google to find out what IP you have!^
-
The point is – VPNs can be used to prevent such event of grabbing an IP, and as such should not be blacklisted.^

Appealing bans do not require using contact us, you use appeals@scratch.mit.edu for appeals instead. You could argue that innocent bans could happen, but they can just submit a contact us and get unblocked.Contact Us is a little inefficient at the moment,

VPN blocks might be happening already, according to PhiPhenomenon

The ST currently is banning VPN IPs that people tried to use to get around their bans. I once turned on a popular VPN, tried to load into the Scratch website, and was met with an IP ban screen. I suppose at some point, the ST would have banned all of the IPs that are allocated to the VPN services.

While IP bans can be effective in preventing ban evading, it is understandable that some users may attempt to bypass them by using a VPN. However, blocking all users who are using a VPN is not an ideal solution as it could result in blocking innocent users as well.
One potential issue with implementing a VPN block is that it may create a false sense of security. Users who are determined to evade bans may simply find another way to do so, such as by using a different VPN or by using a different device altogether. This could result in an ongoing game of cat and mouse between the website and ban evaders, which could be time-consuming and frustrating for both parties.
Furthermore, implementing a VPN block may not be worth the potential negative impact on user experience. Many users rely on VPNs for legitimate reasons, such as accessing content that is blocked in their country or protecting their online privacy. Blocking all VPN users could result in losing these users and could create a negative reputation for the website.
While blocking VPN users may seem like a quick and easy solution to prevent ban evading, it may not be the most effective or sustainable solution in the long run.

(#40)It probably isn't as much of an infringement as collecting stuff like personal information, though (especially since I don't think Scratch sells or distributes your IP to anyone else). Also infringing on privacy would probably be against the laws so… Scratch becomes a 13/18+ site or is taken downCollecting IPs is not against COPPA, but it is definitely an infringment

If you are banning VPNs, then that's rejected.
There are valid reasons why a Scratcher might be using a VPN. At this time I don't see us taking such a drastic action as blocking all VPN use on Scratch. If a particular VPN is being used for abusive reasons, we can block it individually.
