For some reason, when I got muted (testing something), it kept saying that I got a message, even though I didn't.



My browser / operating system: ChromeOS 14541.0.0, Chrome 111.0.0.0, No Flash versionss [sic] detected

If you're on a Scratch 2.0 page, just wait until your mute is finished. That's just the alert it sends you when you're muted. On the messages page, it's hidden from view.
