Wow. Imagine you bought say a washing machine, but you were legally not allowed to open it even if your trying to fix it. That's what most proopietery software licenses do these days.
And unless you want to risk electrocuting yourself, that's just fine! If your washer breaks, then bring it to a trusted repairsperson with the authorization to repair your washer.

I’d rather be able to fix my stuff myself in a couple hours than have someone else fix it in a couple weeks

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Scratch won't be removing it. If you have suggestions for improvements to that safety feature, you might want to contact Scratch engineering.
