The New Website: Scratch 2.0 vs. Scratch 1.4

I've seen many poeple just saying, that the new website is ugly and that they want the old layout back. I can totally understand them and to be honest, when I first visited the page, my thoughs were: “What the donut happened??!!” It is very diffrent from the old design and that might seem bad at first!

But does that make everything just ugly and stupid? - In my opinion: No! Try to imagine, that this is the very first time in your life, you visit Scratch. Is it difficult to use the new website? Is it rather clear or confusing? Of course thats a little bit difficult, because the website is incomplete at the moment.

You may miss the old Website, but the Scratch Team has sure put lots of work into this. Why not…

…take a closer look at the changes!

Main Page
  • The main bar now contains all the options and will allways be at the top of the page, now matter how far you scroll down. How convenient!
  • The options themselves have changed a bit.
  • Notifications don't appear as a box, they have their own icon now. A number will appear, if there is something new. Just like on facebook!
  • You don't visit your own user-profile by clicking your name, you now use the new foldout menu, where you can also go to your projects or the Settings.
  • The boxes on the right side are gone.
  • Instead, the Scratch News are on top of the page. Basically, they have the same role.
  • Next to the Scratch News is the “What's Happening?” Box, which is entirely new! It shows, what other Scratchers have been doing lately.
  • The middle of the Main Page still consists of 8 boxes, each showing projects of a diffrent category! The diffrence is, that you can scroll through
many projects by using the arrows/the scrolling bar.
  • Ah! And the whole thing looks slightly diffrent, more like Youtube or Facebook

Profile Page
  • The whole layout is diffrent, it's less colorful and there are many new features!
  • The group of boxes on the left is gone.
  • You can write something about yourself and what you are working on! Also, you can choose a featured projects and other can see, what you've been doing lately.
  • People can't just see your projects and those you like, the people who are following you, the people you follow and your studios also appear as boxes that look the same as the ones on the main page.
  • Others can comment on your profile

My Stuff Page
  • An entirely new feature, that shows your projects and some information about them
  • It allows you administrate (Share/unshare/delete) projects and studios

Forum
  • A new design
  • When editing a (new) post, you can see all the BB-Codes and just add them by clicking Icons!

In my opinion, the huge change is a bit shocking and i was sceptical at first. But the longer I work with it, the more I like it. I believe, that the new layout makes it easier for newbies to get along and the new features that came along with the new style are awesome!

I don't want to tell you to love the new Side. But you should at least honor the Scratch Teams work. Look at all the changes and think about why they've been made! Maybe it's not that bad at all

This suggestion isn’t really relevant, is it? We’re moving onto 3.0, and many pages form 2.0 have already been changed.

This is ancient, and in no way relevant anymore, there was no need to bump it

then again this isn't even a suggestion and was made when it was the “feedback” forum.
