[NOT REJECTED] a way to make bans public

it's me spocite, i think a user should be able to show if they are banned. it wouldn’t be required, as that’s rejected, but would be an option on the banned-response page. This would stop users from evading bans just to show they are banned, which is against the community guidelines and could get them banned again.

there would be toggle in account settings, and you could turn it on, and if you do, at the scratcher portion of a profile instead of saying “Scratcher” or “New Scratcher”, it would say “Banned _____”

that's about it
bye
Great idea. Then my friends will be able to know if I'm banned or not.
Are you one of those scratchers that gets banned frequently for no reason?

My friend was banned for evading a ban on a massreported alt which he couldn't appeal because it was DELETED FOR A YEAR. ST moderation isn't as foolproof as you think.

Only signed in users would be able to see that, underneath their status is the message which says they're banned. For example:

RubiksRocker

This user was temporarily banned on the 30th March 2023. The user will be unbanned on the 1st April 2023. The user will not be able to post comments, make new projects or take part in any community activity until the user is unbanned. This message will automatically disappear after they are unbanned. The user has chose to enable this message to be shown on their profile.

…or something similar. Bare in mind, the Scratch Team probably do not want the reason for their ban revealed in public, so they won't mention that in the public ban message. So it won't say, “The user has been banned because they have broke the Community Guidelines” or “they used others' scripts without credit”. Also, I referred to the banned user as “the user” rather than “they” to prevent gender dysphoria.
Also, this is completely the users descision to enable this feature, so it is in their rights to be able to hide this message. But, to prevent confusion, if they enable the message then disable it, they will never be able to enable the message again. This should be made clear to the banned user, like a pop-up style warning after they “tick the checkbox” or whatever to enable/disable the message.

Good suggestion though.

whew, haven't been on the forums in a looooooooong time.
I think they should be allowed to reenable it and disable it as many times as they want.

I think this could be used to stop potential gossip? But I'm unsure either way.

Right, an optional way to show blocked status is not rejected (yet), so far as I know.
According to the following quote, It's rejected.
8.4 Show when users are banned For privacy reasons, the Scratch Team does not share such account information with anyone other than the account owner. In particular, a banned user may not want to reveal the fact that they were banned to the public.
I'll jump in here and also say that nowhere in the quote above does it say that an optional way to show when you are banned is rejected. If a banned user does want to reveal the fact that they were banned to the public, then I don't see any issue.

I would imagine, however, that we might not be keen to show why users were banned — especially if they were banned for extremely inappropriate activity.

I think it should just be that when you click on user's profile instead of showing “404 error” it should show “This person is banned” or whatever, but you should definitely ask for permission to show that they are banned.

You might be right about that, but it could be useful because some people don't understand what could've happened to the user with no explanation given by the Scratch Team.

It should say that, but I don't know about ST's decision on it.

Great idea! But I think we should make it so we have the option to show why we are banned.
However, it should only be optional.

I´m pretty sure that is rejected, as ban reasons can show pretty innapropiate stuff and this would basically show them even after the ban

When an user was ban, a ban message is shown to him : https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Ban
If you're talking from a way to modify something on your profile page, this would be at odds with the purpose of the ban…
