Indifferent, but the cursor hides some of the image.True. Maybe an n-pixel frame area around the picture could be active for mouse detection. Or the username.Hmm, but that makes it so annoying for the people who want the gifs on. Mousing over every icon to view it is really tedious. I think perhaps an option to turn on and off gif images in the account settings would be good, and also a way to set both a static image and a gif for your icon so that it isn't caught on the wrong frame. For the static image, creative Scratchers could come up with a way to indicate they have an animated GIF. Then you would only have to mouse over those indicating animation.
Or a play/pause button below the image.
Seems to me like a lot of work to make a few users not annoyed and a lot of others extremely annoyed.

Seems to me like a lot of work to make a few users not annoyed and a lot of others extremely annoyed.Easy enough just to remove the animated GIFs and replace them with PNGs. Simple, not much work.
And this is Scratch where creativity is supposed to be focused on projects and coding, not memory leak causing graphic formats.

Simple solution? Yes. But there are probably thousands of users that use gif images. Remove gifs completely and you wreck every single one of those profile pictures. And then way more when you take away the ones from studios. That's a very destructive solution to fix a small annoyance for a few people.
And the other workarounds are just a very, very tiny bit less destructive and a whole lot more work.

I rather like the idea of making it an option that individuals can set to have animated GIF's display as a static GIF. I'm pretty sure that would be fairly easy to implement - probably no need to replace them all with another format. We have that whole account settings page on the profile - it could be maybe placed there. I really doubt that we are going to remove animated GIF across the site.

+1 for the turn-off feature in your account settings. You can get more attention with that, but some people may either like it or not like it so it is a good idea to have a switch.

Unless the suggestion has already been implemented or rejected outright, I'm okay with getting more feedback on it.+1 for the turn-off feature in your account settings. No support. There are loopholes.
should just get rid of gifs in general (not including mineNo. What about the people with other gifs that aren't spirals or blinking colors?)

I just hate GIFs in general; not only are they annoying and distracting, but on some webpages they can consume several 10-percents of CPU, even on high-end computers like mine. and honestly, they're not impressive or cool, just… bleh.should just get rid of gifs in general (not including mineNo. What about the people with other gifs that aren't spirals or blinking colors?)
@Paddle2See: I absolutely love the idea of disabling GIFs, but I'm afraid it can already be done in some browsers.

Hm, what about an option to turn .GIF animations off at your profile settings? This could include studio thumbnails as well.
