I can't save a project if I draw a thumbnail with the pen extension but I can save a project If I make an image from the stage and use that image as a thumbnail.

I agree.
So far, I have not experienced this glitch, though I get how it is a problem. If I had this glitch, I'd probably wait for about 5-10 minutes, (like you have said) and then check up on it. If it STILL is not working, I'd suspect it was just traffic and wait another day or two to share the project where I have the thumbnail issue.
