In Scratch 1.x, there were multiple updates that changed not only the platform itself, but also the version number. We get to 2.0, and as great as that was, we stopped with the version numbers. However, updates seemed to be more clearer and there were always announcements. 5 years later, 3.0 was released and it was doing great. Even with the disadvantage of people working from home, there was something new in the announcements nearly all the time. Couple years later, and it's just Wiki Wednesday, unstable scheduling of SDS (why can't it be exactly a month long) and little events that many will forget about. Can we at least see what version we're on? Can we at least get version numbering back? Why was it all removed?

Oh, and can we talk about Scratch Lab? Nothings changed besides adding new block colours (how interesting, am I right?) and none of the features being added into Scratch. Another reason why we need version numbers.

You say that, but what about version numbers? What about the announcements? All it is Wiki Wednesdays and Scratch Week every year.

Even though everyone knows that the current version of Scratch is 3.0, I think there might be version numbers. I assume they'd be in LLK's GitHub organization.

They only have version numbers shown in the offline Scratch editor, which I don't think makes sense. Also, none of the updates change 3.0.

Of course they changed it, why else would they make an update? There have been major updates to Scratch 3.0 before, such as making the sound editor be normal instead of the terrible pinching system for editing.

The reason they don't use “major” version numbers anymore is that in the 1.x versions, Scratch was only a downloaded program and you had to download and install a new program each time there was a release number, so they bundled a bunch of changes into a big release to keep people from having to download new things every week. However now that the Scratch editor is online, changes can be deployed immediately to all users without them needing to download anything, so the notion of major version numbers isn't as big a deal anymore.
