I don't think that actually improves privacy very much though. A good tracker blocker should be almost as effective.

My browser is set to clear cookies and cache on exit, which I won't change. Most sites store cookies regardless of tracker blocking.

not all cookies are trackers.

For Linux we only have two real choices for making our web app into a “desktop” app: Electron and WebKitGTK (what Tauri uses). Firefox does not have an Electron equivalent, and WebKitGTK has horrible performance in the editor and generally isn't very good. So Electron is the only viable option here.

Another option would be to use our PWA which attempts to work offline (I wouldn't rely on it), but you have your browser configured to delete everything on exit and it doesn't sound like you're willing to make an exception, so that's not viable either.

So I think your only real option with what we currently provide if you absolutely cannot tolerate Electron is to go to https://github.com/TurboWarp/mirror/actions, click on the latest build, scroll down to download the latest github-pages artifact, extract it twice then open up “index.html” in your favorite browser. Most things will work here, but notably costume fonts will not work. Additionally, things like the costume libraries won't work when you're offline. And because you have your browser set to delete everything, your addon settings won't save.

I'll put an item on the (long) todo list to make a real proper offline standalone HTML file, but I hope you can understand that you have a very unique set of constraints.

For privacy, I recommend you use WorldExplorer instead of your current browser.

I think Electron is bloated and don't like Chromium but will use the Electron app for now as there seems to be no perfect alternative.

Chromium works well outside of Electron. I use it for screen scraping

But I can agree, Tauri is a good modern alternative to Electron

Google pollutes the Web with ads and tracks people more than North Korea does.

chromium doesn’t alone and google doesn’t get anything from you using it.

chromium is open-source and has no spooky google stuff out of the box

* They track Web users unnecessarily. Google Analytics is used by 56% of all websites.
that 56% figure probably isn't very accurate due to the number of websites that are completely unknown

* They want SMS to be replaced by RCS, their own protocol.
rcs is not google's own protocol

* They try to force websites to support Chrome (I don't optimise my site for Chrome).
most websites will work perfectly fine on chromium based browsers if they work fine on non-chromium browsers

* They created a DRM plugin used in many browsers.
some other organization would have eventually done it, regardless of whether google was involved or not

* They are a monopoly. Google Search, Google Chrome and Android have 84%, 65% and 72% worldwide market shares respectively.
android was not created by google and it is also open source, similar to chromium, out of the box it has no spooky google stuff (or really any connection to google)

however, most of the stuff that you'd typically find in an android phone (like google services) is closed-source afaik

I'm not sure I (and they) want to replace my desktop OS with one that's intended for mobile devices. Android-x86 is just a gimmick imo.

Usually prebuilt images and stock images are the only operating systems with Google's services in them. You can easily patch Android to remove this stuff, or just use images made for an un-Googled experience, like Graphene or Lineage.

Also linking your own sources doesn't really give any proof, it just shows bias

This topic isn't about Google as a company, it's about TurboWarp.

no, it’s about separating chromium from turbowarp, which we’re trying to explain isn’t really necessary. people have also suggested a potential option (opening the webapp portion of turbowarp in your browser).

if you’re opening a local file, you shouldn’t need internet.

if really need to use a desktop app, you would have to change large parts of the architecture to make it work without chromium. it just isn’t worth it.
