the comment is meant to be harmless, but isn't, so it still should be reported as it is very offensive (since otherwise the comment stays there). HOWEVER, you should most likely tell them what is wrong with the comment, as otherwise they would make the same mistake againthis is totally a dupe, github is banned on my school laptop though, so I cant use ocular :(If you are seeing the word in a comment you should let them know before you go around reporting people for it. The meme is still commonly used and the comment might have been harmless.
The title, baka means very offensive things in japanese, It a swear word there. And even if children don't get it and they think sussy baka is a small joke, it should still be banned for meaning offensive things.
edit: just because someone in english doesn't know its a swear, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be banned. ITS STILL A SWEAR AT THE END OF THE DAY
edit 2: I understand that it has a lot of translations in other languages. but japanese is not only the 2nd largest language in scratch (at least last time I checked), but is also where the word is from.
-Happy Scratching!
If it is intended to be harmless, it should be treated as such. Just because “chair” could be inappropriate in another language doesn't mean we can't use it. It's an entirely different thing in English.

also your intent shouldnt mean anything, it matters more how it effects ppl
(also the word “baka” when used in english isnt “an entirely different thing” its the exact same word as in japanese. dont spread false info.)

I believe it is different enough. The word derived from memes, particularly “sussy baka”. When used in this context, it means someone who is acting silly or humorous, meaning no harm was dealt. When it comes to Scratch, it is based in America. While the word might be used in a bad way, it's the context that matters. If I were to include it in a list of negative connotations then yes, the word is bad. But anyone should be able to understand when a word is used in a phrase or the “silly” way. To conclude, people should report negative “baka” comments, but not silly “baka” comments.

Everything in consideration, there are too many use cases where the word could be used innocently leading to censorship problems. Just report comments using “baka” in an inappropriate way and leave it at that.

As many have said, “baka” has meanings in other languages (coming from English). I'll just list a few examples:
- Filipino: baka -> cow
- Hawaiian: baka -> smoke
- Hungarian: baka -> buck
- Danish: baka -> bake

I have told you. The common meaning, I'd say about as common as the word “because”.Why only in Japanese characters?also baka is not a common word in any language but japanese afaik, yes, it means things in other languages, but i dont see any language where its a common enough word to warrant considerationI hear it very commonly here. Google Translate will tell you it means “cow”, but it has a second more common meaning. I can't think of the direct translation, but trust me, it's very common. I suggest only banning it in japanese characters.

ok if you think your point is so good, see if it means anything in a different language.
i'll wait for you.
——-
if the f word was a common word in the language, we could unban it, for that language.

It does though. Baka has been proved to be used commonly in some languages. How is the f word being used commonly and is it even being used commonly in a language? If you can find one, maybe it will be whitelisted but not for “Oh my (fricking) gosh!”

The F-word was just a theoretical what-if that put English people into the shoes of Japnese people. The F-word isn't actually a normal word in other languages.(#116)
