Wait, so you could just change the swear word filter in settings? I don't think that's what this was suggesting…
No, not at all. There shouldn't be a way to change what you can and can't say or a way to filter profanity in such a way, that would be very easily exploitable. For the last time, there should be no swearing on a children's coding website!

That's what reallysoftuser meant in the first place, though?

Okay, I'll be honest, I'm a getting a little confused. What is this exactly suggesting…?

I believe this was suggesting different layers for the filterbot with different punishments.

Oh, I thought the whole “changing it in the settings” thing was for turning off the profanity filters for those who want to.
I know what the entire idea is, it'd be nice to be delivered a warning once in a while instead of being muted for something you didn't actually say.

No support. The current mute system works, and you shouldn't fix what ain't broke. Also I do not think you should be able to just change it in settings.

Alright, let me make the suggestion more clear, what it does and doesn't have. This is long overdue.

Alright, this revision should make it clearer a) why the mte system should be changed and b) that you can't change it in settings.

I supported the old revision, and that support carries over to the new revision. The reason why I supported both revisions was because getting muted for simply mentioning Discord is a bit unfair.

Alright, to everyone in this quote chain, I've addressed this directly in the new revision in case you haven't seen it.

Phrases used in other languages with different meanings shouldn't get muted instantly.
For example, in Romanian, without the dashes in the first one:
  • cu-m means how
  • pus și means put and
  • foc means fire

All of these get blocked, at least on the main website.

Relatable…support for this reason. I'm also tired of getting muted for saying names of sites that I don't even know were bad to mention in the first place

(oh wow this topic was made while i was still in high school lol)
a mute is 5 minutes long, it's not a stupid amount of time
also do remember that the way that scratch interprets the filter has two levels already: warn and blacklist (cleanspeak does have four but in this context i'm not sure if it's really necessary).
warn brings the comment to the report queue but does not block the comment as a precautionary, “hey, this is probably ok but i'm just checking with you anyway!”, measure.
blacklist will mute the user for 5 minutes
i think that should be fine

Indeed, there are way too many situations where words in another language is spelled like an offensive English word, and the current filter is not/only partially able to tell. Some other examples:

-W-a-n-g: common character in the Chinese language, also commonly used in sur- and as a last name.
-B-a-l-l-s: Even in the English language, it has other, in no means offensive meanings. In German, well, it, with a few exceptions, only means ‘'Ball’'. Some German users even got muted for saying ‘'F-u-ß-b-a-l-l’' (football/soccer), which triggered the filter because the ‘'ß’', phonetically, is partially equal to a double s.

And the filter also gets mistaken by normal ENGLISH words:

(…) while the (insert any regular plural noun here) hit (smth.). See? the the plural-s and the hit get censored as a faecal expression.

And everyone's favourite:

That's a (the synonym for little) cheesy. I think I don't even need to explain that.

And it these words get considered as very offensive and are put in the major filter, that would exclude users who speak a different language than English which are just trying to say normal things.

Uh oh, that means we can't talk about Spanish Hits?

Or French Art for that matter, I was muted for saying “f-a-r-t” and for some reason, “f-a-n-g-l-e-d”. What's wrong with those?

Could you please elaborate? Sorry, but I am usually not very good in understanding satires… Apologies if it wasn't one!

Take the first letter of the first word and the last 3 letters of the last word. Except for perhaps “f-a-n-g-l-e-d,” those have a real reason to be muted.
