Do you have a project that you want to record highscores of everyone?
Or do you want to make a survey, but your variable changes to 0 every time it is started?

Then, the answer is to use Cloud Variables.

What is a Cloud Variable?

A cloud variable is a variable that stores the data in server.
For example, it can save highscores or number of votes in survey.
I find this very useful in platformers, especially.

How do I make a variable a cloud variable?

You first have to be a Scratcher, not a New Scratcher to make a cloud variable.
If you don't know, go to your profile, and check the status next to your username.
If you are a Scratcher, you can make a cloud variable.
If not, be more active, comment a lot, and share a lot of projects!

So, to make a cloud variable, first click on the ‘make variable’ button.
Name it and all, but don't click ‘Done’ yet.
There should be a checkbox that says ‘Cloud variable (Stored in server)’.
Click on it.
Click ‘Done’.
You've created it! IF you did it right, you should have a cloud shape next to yout variable's name.

If I'm not a Scratcher, how do I become one?

You must be active, share a lot of projects, comment a lot, and be patient.
Once or week or so, check your profile.
If Scratch Team thought that you're ready to be a Scratcher, you should see a blue words that says ‘Become a Scratcher!’
Click on it, agree all the things, and boom! You can now use cloud variables in addition to backpack.

Other places that can always use more helpful Scratchers like you, are the "Help With Scripts“ and ”Questions About Scratch" areas - please use them as designed, by responding to topics created by folks with problems to solve

Finally, a really good place for Scratch guides is the Scratch Wiki - check it out and see if it's something you might like to work on. They have a number of guides - and great organization.
