Scratch Domains
Scratch's home domain is scratch.mit.edu, but Scratch also owns some other, nonsensical domains. If you try and go to other websites like scratch.pizza, scratch.love and scratch.team, it just redirects you to scratch.mit.edu.
Strangely. scratch.mit, scratch.edu and scratch.cat don't work, even though I feel like 7 year olds would more likely mistake the domain for scratch.edu than scratch.pizza. My original theory about this being a failsafe to redirect confused Scratchers who forgot the domain can be thrown out the window. My best guess is that these are former events or April Fool pranks, or a work of a third party absent of any ST members entirely.

OKAY MY QUESTION IS WHY DOES SCRATCH OWN THESE DOMAINS

That just brought back up some memories where I actually used to think the url to go to this website was scratch.com.au (I am Australian), so I would go to that website instead!Fun fact: scratch.org also redirects, so someone who's used to .org domains (maybe by their teacher) would go to scratch.org and get redirected, so…Also, “scratch.com games” is one of the first search results when you enter scratch.com to the search bar.

scratch.com is a literal “scratch” website, where people make music. seems a bit sketchy
still looking for an answer to the original question, but i'm not sure anyone knows

Happy to have someone who lives in the same continent as me.scratch.com is a literal “scratch” website, where people make music. That must be why they chose that as the domain. As a bit of a wordplay.
seems a bit sketchyWell, it looks legit to me! (much a service like soundcloud)
still looking for an answer to the original question, but i'm not sure anyone knowsMy guess would be that it's a third party in the mix, and the owners of scratch.pizza and the like are getting RL money from the traffic. Those websites remind me of leanscratch, which was a chinese clone website that may have been failed archiving.

If I recall correctly, those domains are claimed by the ST to prevent cybersquatting.

So many non-answers in this thread but this is the actual answer. They claim these domains beforehand so that cybersquatters don't claim them and make them redirect to malicious sites. It's why google owns a lot of domains that are just common misspellings of their company name.
