Why is griffpatch's YouTube channel allowed?

I've been genuinely wondering this for a while - he's pretty openly advertising certain browser extensions over there, so why can he share it on Scratch?

Pretty much all the recent ones are “ads” for the youtube tutorials

All in all, quite an interesting thing, but I suspect that because he doesn't do it directly on Scratch, but in other places (mainly yt), he doesn't have such a problem with it.

Alright,

Scratch's guidelines only apply to Scratch, Youtube has a different set of guidelines, which allow him to do this stuff.

ST doesn't have jurisdiction over another's website, and technically, they are following the rules (on another site), and aren't doing it on this site.

The only time ST gets involved into stuff like that is if a Scratcher is bullying another Scratcher on another website to avoid the site's rules here,
they usually would ban the account on Scratch in that scenario.

I hope that's probably cleared up some confusion.

Doesn't the ST also remove links to YT channels on Scratch if the channel breaks Scratch's rules in some other way?

I believe by “openly advertising browser extensions”, you mean the tiny link on older videos? Yeah, griffpatch stopped doing that.

Please take a look inside the studios! All the projects are made with help of his tutorials….you don't need any extension to create such a project.

Well, he uses the search and find feature for when his tutorial's project gets very big, which is only available in nono word.

The studio description links the tutorials, which sometimes have griffpatch mentioning the extension in them.

Absolutely.

They've also got involved with live streams because of their “links to unmoderated chat”

A couple of famous scratchers a while ago got into that.

I wouldn't consider a 4 month old video having an entire chapter dedicated to it a “tiny link on older videos”.

Think of it like this. I have a YouTube account not regarding Scratch and promote browser extensions on my channel. I have a Scratch account though. Why am I allowed to have a Scratch account? This is because Scratch Guidelines only apply to the website which is Scratch. Does this make sense?

Griffpatch's youtube channel is allowed. Alright, so griffpatch openly mentions browser extensions on his Youtube channel. And he advertises his channel on Scratch. So you'd think “oh zoinks! that's not allowed!”. Actually, it is.

First of all, it isn't about Youtube being separate from Scratch. While that is true, if you advertise it on Scratch, they consider it bad and remove it. But that only applies if your channel breaks 1 of these restrictions:

1: Has live streams. Livestreams are unmoderated and you could easily swear in them

2: Contains swears. Swears are bad, no questions asked.

3: Break any of Scratch's terms of service.

Now, mentioning a browser extension that is confirmed to be safe by thousands to millions of people is allowed. The reason the third-party extension rule was passed was to prevent malicious intent. His youtube channel also contains no swears, live streams, and it doesn't break any terms of service. It provides helpful videos that are completely safe. And that's why:

The above is not true. All advertisement of browser extensions are banned, similar to Discord links.

preeeetty sure mentioning a browser extension (no matter how many people confirmed it to be safe) is against the TOS
