How do you go on scratch if you are dead?
where is everyone getting that “departed” means “dead” from?
it's literally in the dictionary:
departed | dɪˈpɑːtɪd |
adjective
dead: a dear departed relative | (as noun the departed) : prayers for the departed.

but it isnt meant that way. maybe “inactive”?

technically the definition of departed for airplanes specifically is under “depart.” Departed itself has a definition but it's also a past tense form of depart.
