Scratch on MacOS 9
Is there a way to run Scratch 1.x on MacOS 9?
I've tried, but I haven't gotten it to work.

I think your best bet is using a scratch 1.0 emulation website

…but I don't want to use networking features on my Mac OS 9 guest!
(And even if it did, how would it run it, what with the browsers older than Scratch)

Unless you recompile Scratch and Squeak for MacOS 9 (which predates Windows XP), no.

I know it's the worst time to bump this right now, but can I please get an answer on this month-old post?

What dhuls says is right. Not sure if it's worth asking around in Advanced topics if someone made a version of 1.x that's launchable on older systems, but it's important to understand that Scratch 1.x was made when Windows XP was the more common OS system, so getting Scratch 1.x to run on an OS that predates that would be difficult.

I'd say squeak.js.org is your best bet (it can emulate squeak which means it can emulate scratch 1.4)

But, because the browsers for Mac OS 9 have an aneurysm trying to load so much as Wikipedia, I can safely bet that it will be no better when trying to load Squeak.js. I'd say squeak.js.org is your best bet (it can emulate squeak which means it can emulate scratch 1.4)

Not too sure if you can find a solution. Why not just upgrade?

What if, on the reeeeally rare occasion that someone wants to go on Scratch, but they can't afford a new Mac, or Mac OS X? Not too sure if you can find a solution. Why not just upgrade?
(or they do have OS X, but it's not supported.)

Ok, number 1, if you do not have money, why did you buy a mac. A gaming laptop only costs around $1500NZD macs are $1900NZD. If you still do not have money get a job if you haven't already afterwards you probably will realise how hard it is to earn money if you haven't already. There isn't really any other solution. I'm just trying to say if you want something, earn it yourself, if you don't want to then we can't really do much about that. What if, on the reeeeally rare occasion that someone wants to go on Scratch, but they can't afford a new Mac, or Mac OS X? And you have no idea what kind of work they do on the computer and if the performance of the mac is actually better
If they really bought a mac for themself then they should have gotten a gaming pc or laptop

Yup, you have a point. I believe the prices are usually similar at release. @Goner5 , macs are usually expensive because of the material (I believe it is aluminium alloy for most or all macs). They aren't because of the performance. You also have a point, they might just buy it because its a lot lighter than the other laptops etc. What I meant was there probably isn't a solution and the best “solution” is to just buy a new mac, I did not intend for my previous post to sound rude.Plus those are prices for new Macs..Bro this is probably a kid whose parent bought it for themOk, number 1, if you do not have money, why did you buy a mac. edit: Christmas is coming maybe you could ask them? You probably will need a better device when you get further in school (assuming you are a kid).

This thread is going way out of hand, so let me say this:
It will be somewhat of a nightmare to put Scratch 1.x on OS 9.
Just upgrade to OS X.
