Compiling to real code is indeed rejected, but I could see Scratch Team giving this idea specifically a pass on that. My only concern: Does this require the code to be compiled or do you think there's any way it could run in real time, or at least pretend to? If it is possible then I support, otherwise I do not support, because Scratch's workflow is not designed around compiling code.
JIT compilation (or transpilation, I'm not really sure).

Sorry to necropost!
Great idea, but Cozmo already has Scratch-like blocks.

I don't see why this is still being bumped… Cozmo was discontinued long ago, and a much better version named Vector exists now, with it's own block-based coding interface.

Vector is a smart home assistant in the form of a moving robot. It does not have it's own programming interface. Cozmo is not discontinued, a Cozmo 2.0 is currently in the works by Cozmo's new parent company, Digital Dream Labs.

Wait really? That's awesome! Mighta also gotten Vector and Cozmo mixed up with the programming interface thing. Also, just hearin' about Cozmo 2.0. I'm definitely getting that when it comes out.

Cozmo and Vector 1.0 and 2.0 run off of Python, but scratch runs off Javascript. Also, Scratch has no permission.

It's not like scratch can't convert javascript to python. I believe they did that for the lego Mindstorm or something simular. Also, this is asking scratch to ask for permission to do this. It would be hard for scratch to do this without permission. I do not have anything else to say about the suggestion, as I am pretty neutral.

While yes, that is true, a company called “Digital Dream Labs” bought the rights to Cozmo and another robot called Vector. They have been supporting it ever since.

Yeah, so that's kind of what i was saying. lego mindstorms has python conversion, but actually, Cozmo has been a test subject before with javascript programs, and he does not allow converted scripts.

That kind of defeats the purpose of the suggestion.

cozmo uses code blocks and is almost identical to scratch so I don’t see why this can’t be added

i had no clue this post was still so active!

this should (hopefully) be resolved by either FOSS devs, DDL, or the Scratch Team soon, considering that Cozmo's official block-based coding is based on Scratch 3.0 already, this could be trivial to port to desktop as it's own app or a website.

The only 2 problems with a Cozmo extension is that Firstly) You can't make too long projects because Cozmo turns off after 5-15 minutes (or maybe that's just my Cozmo IDK), and Secondly) You'd need to have the Cozmo app open or else Cozmo turns off. If Scratch team and Cozmo team can get around those problems, I would really like it!

This could be possible, but I could see it being rejected, as scratch would have to collab with a multi-million dollar company, which might not even like the idea. There are too many factors that need to be thought about for this to work.
