Horror Games

I wanted to make a game inspired by the Roblox game Doors, but with this came the question. Are horror games allowed on Scratch? Please let me know.

P.S. My definition of a horror game would be a game with unsettling music/sounds, scary sprites, and jumpcares.

If you wouldn't show it to a 4-year-old, don't share it on Scratch. Jumpscares and sprites with gore and excess blood are not allowed.

No - these are examples of things that are not allowed on Scratch. Scratch is intended to be welcoming to people of all ages.

To Fshmeft,

The adequate amount of frightening content, if I understand correctly, would be limited to family-friendly spooky content. For example, unsettling sounds/music is far too much, but a ghost exclaiming, “Boooo!” and something as unsettling as the Luigi’s Mansion theme would be acceptable on the Scratch website. Scary sprites could include a clipart ghost, a cartoon vampire, or a cute witch. Jumpscares are not permitted at all due to excessive spooky content.

Sincerely yours,
Justin J,

No, this kind of game with the items you replaced is not allowed on Scratch.

Unsettling music/sounds are fine, could get NFE'd, but they're fine. Scary sprites and jumpscares are absolutely not allowed tho.

Define unsettling music/sounds, then. If it’s unsettling, it will likely be removed, but if it is semi-unsettling, it would likely be NFE. Is that accurate? I am not so sure…

I'm pretty sure all music is allowed, as long as there are no inappropriate lyrics, and you're not infringing copyright

I don't know how to properly describe it but think of your typical horror game music such as the music box song from FNAF, while on its own it isn't scary, but in the context of the game it is eerie.

That is currently my best way to explain my opinon, hope it helps.
