Have a restricted version of the website for school accounts
Considering that Scratch has social media functions. This allows people to talk to strangers, and see hurtful comments from them.
I feel like a restricted version of the site can be made, for students who use the site for school projects.
What will it do?
1. Restrict access to some of the website, such as
- Viewing other people's profiles (Making where you can only view your school friends/teachers accounts),
- Discuss forum (as many of the users on there anyway are mostly strangers),
- Commenting (as this is related to social media anyway, and the students can just use Canvas to talk to their teachers),
- Following other accounts (Like commenting, this is related to social media. And most of the users are strangers anyway. Instead, it can only be used to keep in touch with the teachers and students in class)
- Disable Remixing (considering that remixing a project, doesn't make it yours fully. And some students may use this to plagiarize others work as their own.)
2. It will be more school friendly and it will allow users to submit Scratch Projects as their school assignments. Like Canvas.
3. Not only if this will help the schools consider using the site, this can benefit the students into not doing the wrong thing.
Will this help?

the literal only things that are wrong with this is that
1. it would require lots of money to develop
2. it would require a separate server, which would be expensive to maintain
3. the current system appears to work fine. besides, stranger danger precautions don't really apply to those actively doing the same
TL;DR the only way this is going to be implemented is if someone decides to donate a billion dollars for some reason

I mean, this would actually help Scratch a lot. Considering that there are still bad people who use the site. the literal only things that are wrong with this is that(removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate)

(removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate)But remember this would also create problems: I mean, this would actually help Scratch a lot. Considering that there are still bad people who use the site.
-Not every teacher uses Canvas (In fact I'd bet most teachers don't know what that is)
-Disabling remixing would break scratch's own Terms of Use
-School accounts would be less encouraged to keep scratching when their class is over.
Not to mention most of the problems you bring up aren't really problems to begin with

Edit- also like my school used to use a unmoderated chat app by microsoft, minecraft education, scratch, code.org and other meeting app unmoderated and currently uses google meet, another chat app and scratch. Not a student teacher account as the use scratch just like make project and show in class so they do not care what you do. This will encourage less teacher student accounts and they have done like this to give us more freedom.

- But you wouldn't want someone plagiarizing your work you spent years on, and have someone modify it to make it theirs.
- You know they would just make a personal account and use it for personal stuff.
Considering that Scratch has multiple social media aspects, it is likely blocked in some schools.

Most schools thing is in your area. Here in my area I got to know about tha app through scratch. There are pretty less people using that here. We have other apps too and many of those don't have the messaging feature- Most schools use it nowadays(removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate)But remember this would also create problems: I mean, this would actually help Scratch a lot. actually not really. a lot of people keep using their school accounts after the class is done(for example, @capitanfluffy)- Most schools use it nowadays(removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate)But remember this would also create problems: I mean, this would actually help Scratch a lot. (removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate)it's in our genes, they'll never stop coming. I would recommend following this advice when you see that there are still bad people who use the site. (removed by moderator - please keep it appropriate):
report, report, and report again
no mercy.

- But what if they got their school account banned forever and cannot recover it? Not a good idea, considering personal accounts are better for personal projects.
- The reporting system barely even works.

Then that's on them for getting their school account banned. - But what if they got their school account banned forever and cannot recover it? Not a good idea, considering personal accounts are better for personal projects.
Not really. Scratch has arguably the best moderation for how small its moderation team is. A small moderation team for a large website. - The reporting system barely even works.

The discussion forums are a great way to get help, so I don't think restricting it is going to make things any easier.

I will say yes, the idea is not bad, but it needs to be refined, because I do not understand, for example, why school accounts would not have access to the forum. Forums are for everyone and should be made available for everyone to use. And secondly, I suspect that organizing this would most likely require a large amount of money and a second server (it will be hard to bet it on something new, because platform works well)

What? I don't understand your argument. - Blame the social media features, on a kids website…
Low moderation team and there are bound to be some-rule-breaking projects that bypass. Youtube often has bypasses and they have a bigger mod team. - Then explain the many inappropriate projects you can find.

I don't understand why you're trying to use this point. Let me break down your previous ideas. - Blame the social media features, on a kids website…
-View other profiles - I don't get what is wrong with viewing other profiles. Viewing other's works may inspire you to make something else.
-Discussion Forum - This is the most reasonable idea, but ScolderCreations made a good point as to why it shouldn't be restricted
-Commenting - This is already restricted for unverified emails, but that's for a different reason than protecting students, which comments do not hurt
-Following - This one is ridiculous. So much so that I don't even have any words for it other than what I and others have said before.
-Remixing - This somewhat exists already for unverified emails, but they can't share projects. So if we can't remix, we might as well not be able to share projects.
Those projects have either not been reported yet or have been reported but it's taking a few days for the moderation team to get to that report, either that or the project is perfectly fine. - Then explain the many inappropriate projects you can find.

- Considering that you can contact a stranger there without knowing it.
- Like my previous point.
- Again, you can contact strangers with it.
- Like the other points… Contacting strangers…
- Unless your school account is verified with a school email by the school.
- That doesn't excuse the site having inappropriate content being left on the servers for years, and for some reason people don't regularly report projects anymore (Considering that barely anyone views projects like they used to, unless it's featured on the homepage…)

A ton of effort is needed to make this change to Scratch, and honestly, it's not worth it. If you believe the moderation on Scratch is so bad that we need to restrict students from being able to comment, then maybe what we should be focusing on is actually clicking “report” on inappropriate things. Although this may be beneficial to some educators, it would simply take too much time and effort to implement.
