Turn the header black to pay respect to Queen Elizabeth

The Queen sadly passed away today, so I suggest turning the website header black to pay tribute. People from all around the world mourn her death, not just from the UK.

semi-support. while this would be a great way to appreciate her after her death, scratch is used by people all over the world, not just england, and tends to sort of stay away from politics

This shouldn't happen. What significance does she hold to Scratch itself? Also, Scratch is meant to be playful.

No support. Scratch hasn't honored anyone's death before so choosing her specifically would just be strange. And as ScolderCreations said, she has nothing to do with Scratch or coding.

Plus there are a lot of people who will get mad about this, as she apparently did some unsavory things in her lifetime. It's best to stay away from politics.

They do when it’s reasonable to, like here. BLM is a racial equality movement, of course they would support that.

Scratch changes the banner to black. Percent of Irish users online drops by 90%.

i’m irish but i don’t understand this

ANYWAY this could potentially cause issues since people may think there’s a sort of bias (why didn’t they announce this guy’s death? BiAsEd!)

what does the banner being black even have to do with queen elizabeth???

anyway id like to bring up that suggestion a while back about adding a reference to technoblade in scratch because of his passing.
that suggestion was silly because technoblade has no connection to scratch. this applies here too.
what significance does queen elizabeth have to scratch???/

This is a kids website. I don't think kids really know who Queen Elizabeth II was, and if they did, they probably don't understand why it matters that she died. And even if they did, I'd still be against this suggestion.

Question, why a black header though? What significance does that have?

Black is usually a color of mourning or sadness.

Why do we need mourning and sadness on Scratch? It won’t teach anyone how to code.

I agree with that, but keep in mind that there's a lot of things scratch adds that aren't really necessary for coding, such as the pride flag and the BLM emoji

I don't think those are comparable because mourning and sadness are negative topics that contrast to Scratch's upbeat personality, meanwhile the BLM and pride emojis show alliance with many Scratch users.

ST, this may look like a copy and paste, but I removed the stuff causing a problem.
I feel like that morning the loss of the person who was alive before the universe was created is important, but I feel like that it should be up to the community to express themselves similar to people changing their pfp to Technoblade’s pfp.

If you do this once, you may be forced to do it multiple times. If Scratch acknowledges the loss of Queen Elizabeth, they will be expected to acknowledge other deaths of famous people.

As far as I know, Scratch doesn't do this kind of thing. Not everyone is from England or some place colonized by Britain like Canada or something. The closest thing they've ever done to this sort of thing is the George Floyd case, and the ST only made a forum post and featured maybe like 30 or so studios, not redesigning the whole website.
Also, the plans for the funeral are scheduled to apparently last eleven days, so having the website turn from blue to black for eleven days just turns people away.
