Album Reviews #4: The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Trigger Warning: This album contains many, many mentions of death and self-loathing, and if that is triggering to you in any way, I wouldn't recommend listening to this album.
Welcome to the fourth installment in my album review series! Here, I review albums and give them a rating from 1-10 based off my opinion.
The Smiths were a pop rock band from the UK that was started by front man Morissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. The Queen Is Dead was released 1986 and helped shape the landscape of pop and indie rock after it's release. The album is full of catchy bass and guitar work, tight and rhythmic drumming, and the beautiful croons of Morissey that deliver the lyrics of love and loathing with a hint of irony. A prime example of Morissey's songwriting is on “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”, where the lyrics combine the feelings of longing and self hate to make a truly sincere love song. Every single member of the band is on point here, from the frantic drumming at the beginning of the title track, to the layered and complex guitar work of “Bigmouth Strikes Again”, “The Boy With A Thorn In His Side”, and the aforementioned “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”. I also REALLY love the bass at the start of “Cemetry Gates”, it pairs well with the acoustic chord progression. Some songs, like “Vicar in a Tutu” leave a bit to be desired however, but other than a few minor grievances, this album is a great listen!
Best Tracks: Bigmouth Strikes Again, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, The Boy With A Thorn In His Side, Cemetry Gates
Worst Tracks: Vicar in a Tutu
Final Rating: 8.6/10

How? It doesn't say anything negative, derogatory, or insensitive in the album or in my review.
I just wanted to review this influential and high quality guitar pop album, that I happened to enjoy quite a bit.
