What do you do in a DT (design trade)?

Hello!
I have seen the abbreviation “DT” around, and I know it means “design trade”, but what do you do in one!
Thank you!

A Design Trade, otherwise known as and Art Trade, is where you ask one person to draw something for you and you draw something for them.

That's not entirely correct. ATs and DTs are different. An art trade is what you described, but a DT is where both make a character design for the other, as opposed to drawing an existing character.

I've only been in one DT so take my words with a grain of salt
but basically you have to make a character for someone based off of a colour palette

It can be a color palette, or an animal, or a theme, or anything that they ask for. There aren't any limits, but of course you would only call it a DT if you were trading designs.

Actually that’s not the same thing. ATs are when you draw, but DTs are when you design characters. There’s a slight difference.
