This is… Just Multiverse of Madness. Down to the zombie protagonist and exposition about the big event happening in the climax of the universe.

John escapes to universe -2 and gets into a battle with Ghoul Constantine and dies = Strange escapes to that other universe and gets into a battle with Sinister Strange

John arrives to the afterlife and meets Lucifer = Strange gets the Darkhold.
John makes a deal to be alive = Strange Dreamwalks into his own corpse, becoming a zombie.
