Don't ban people for censoring swears. [read the entire OP before posting or rejecting]

According to this topic, this is a warning:
Please do not replace characters or hint at words, phrases, or links to go around the filter system. If we see you doing this, it tells us that you know we do not allow that content to be shared on Scratch, but you are okay with intentionally breaking the rules to do it anyways. If you continue to intentionally break the Community Guidelines when using Scratch, you will be blocked.
This means that saying stuff like h*ck isn't allowed (if it's an actual swear).
I don't think we should do this because there's literally no reason to do it. The community guidelines just say to keep it appropriate, and censored words aren't inappropriate. The entire reason swearing is banned is so kids don't learn the swear words, meaning if you don't say the actual word, there's no harm. If it's to prevent inappropriate context, the comments would be reportable one way or another. It's just common sense.
The only reasons people should get warned is if they're flat-out bypassing the filter or if they censor less than half of the word. It's just a really bad reason to ban someone for intentionally breaking the rules when nobody would assume that censoring words is against the rules. I've gotten temp banned for that before.

Also, the words frick and crap are allowed even though they're cleaner versions of swear words.

Edit: I would like to put emphasis on the fact that this does not mean people get a free pass from the rules.

Nope, I don't see this happening. Dropping out just a letter or two still puts the word in your brain because humans are good at working with incomplete data. So the impact on the reader is the same.

Alright, here's the relevant discussion that happened on other topics:

I disagree with this statement. Most kids probably know the common swear words. The reason to censor them is because they are impolite, offensive to some, and often lead to hostile conversation.

If “apple” was a bad word, then typing *pple would be pretty close enough. It's along the lines of misspelling a bad word, which also shouldn't be allowed. That is, “aple” and “appl” should not be allowed either. Someone who sees *pple could look it up and Google could easily autofill in the rest. Furthermore, those who see asterisks in random words would automatically know that they're swear words.

What I'm trying to say is that censoring stuff doesn't give people a free pass from the CGs, but they shouldn't get banned for censoring things in ways that are appropriate. I couldn't find any more, sorry.
I think “appropriate censoring” would be along the lines of replacing “lmao” with “lol,” for instance. (I know “lmao” is not that offensive, but I'm just using it as an example to avoid using more offensive words.) Replacing “lmao” with **** doesn't really make it any more appropriate, and in fact makes it more suggestive — those asterisks could mean anything, including words which are even more offensive. It's not easy to tell what they're supposed to be. Another way to censor inappropriate words is to just not use them in the first place. So I don't think replacing letters with asterisks is a completely appropriate way of censoring words.

I think another point about your earlier suggestion in particular is that it seems to discourage constructive and respectful commenting. If Scratchers were allowed to censor swear words, then they may do that instead of commenting in a friendly manner. I would rather see this comment on one of my projects:
This platformer is pretty good, but it's very glitchy. Have you tried asking for fixes in the Help with Scripts forum?
than this:
This platformer is **** you should fix it by going to Help with Scripts
Furthermore, there is no doubt that Scratchers would use this sort of censoring mechanic to try to be smart with the Scratch Team: “When I said ‘This platformer is ****,’ I was censoring the word ‘good’! Why would I get an alert for saying the word ‘good’?”
I'll retaliate to it in a little while but right now, I'm kind of busy.

Edit: 2000th post.

This sorta seems redundant to me chief.
You’d have trolls/bots CONSTANTLY abusing this
anyway i dont see a point for this besides making parents mad

Perhaps you should change “ban” to “punish”. Nobody gets banned for doing this one time, and bans are only one of the different forms of punishment. (I know it seems like I'm nitpicking, but it seems to be a common misconception among New Scratchers that all offenses result in a ban, so the title might be misleading.)

That is exactly what your saying
No swears on scratch (besides the ones that are MINOR swears). Full stop.
That means people could call everyone cr*pheads (replace with actual swear, this is an example) and get nothing bad from it besides attention (which they want)
And paddle2see also already said no:

Whether that's a valid reason for a rejection is under debate, that's why it got reopened.

I don't think this will ever be implemented, there is just one big problem with it. The point still gets across, even if it isn't the full word. It is really easy to tell what the word is supposed to be, even for younger people, and it may take an effect on them. Scratch is a site for children, and censored swearing is still basically swearing.

If someone uses one of these in a way that's inappropriate, it's still reportable.

You can usually tell from the context. If there is none, it's probably rude and can be deleted. Most people wouldn't do this though, they would probably leave 1 letter to help give it away.

People can already do this.

All points that aren't responded to are already covered in the OP.

There is no point in allowing it, nothing but controversy will come out of it

Paddle already said he doesn't happening.

I also don't see this happening.

Filterbot already picks up on most of these cases anyway, so if you censor out swears, then more likely than not you were trying to evade the filterbot or were aware of the presence of the filterbot. Hence sometimes the stricter policy when people censor out swears, or less strict scenario of evaluating the censored version with the same degree as the non-censored version. So in consideration of the filterbot's presence, I would say this is a rejected suggestion.
