Why does scratch take so god darn long to upload mp3s?
My computer and literally EVERYTHING else on it is able to open mp3 files and upload them to their “site” or “game”, except for scratch, but why? Why do I have to convert my amazing mp3 files into wav?

It probably depends on a lot of factors. The most likely is file size/internet speed. It's common logic that larger files will take longer to download/upload on slower internet connections. If you compress the file, it'll take less time at an expense of sound quality.
I have another theory, although this might be a stretch, is that .mp3 files don't really work well with the Scratch sound engine, so it converts them into .wav.

I also just realized, but I think mp3 files take up more memory than wav, which means scratch probably has a limit to it's memory, like most things on the internet.

I don't think so. Usually WAV files are uncompressed, they should take up more space than MP3 files. I also just realized, but I think mp3 files take up more memory than wav, which means scratch probably has a limit to it's memory, like most things on the internet.

Maybe because scratch needs to uncompress the mp3, thus taking it longer?I don't think so. Usually WAV files are uncompressed, they should take up more space than MP3 files. I don’t really experience this problem. Maybe it is simply your computer, or the size of files you are trying to upload.

I don't think .mp3s are compressed in a way similar to .zip files. They shouldn't need to be uncompressed, and I don't think it's possible to uncompress them.Maybe because scratch needs to uncompress the mp3, thus taking it longer?I don't think so.
