If you need a good dos emulator for linux, I suggest dosemu as opposed to DOSBOX
dosemu has the dos text editor and a pew other dos features that DOSBOX does not offer
you should be able to find it in your linux repository.

I thought command prompt used MS-DOS functions? I guess not…
It shares some things with it but isn't a full operating system.
It has some DOS commands, but mainly for legacy reasons. But if you explore regedit and system files yu can find remnats of dos that could potentially be reconstructed, but that is very unlikely

DOSBox was made specifically for DOS, but I would go one step further and say that DOSBox-X is objectively the best DOS emulator as not only does it support DOS games (which DOSBox's main priority is), but it also supports DOS applications (which DOSBox has as a lower priority) and it even has native Windows 9x emulation (which DOSBox never wants in the first place)
