Um… anyone know about Internet Recovery? I mean I know how to use it, but it keeps throwing me into OS X Lion recovery even though:
1. The Mac supports up to High Sierra.
2. I literally pressed only Option + Command + R (without the Shift) which is definitely supposed to take you to the latest recovery that this Mac supports, which in this case is High Sierra.
I heard it installs the version that comes on your Mac originally
You can get internet recovery to boot into the latest OS it supports though.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) - Big Sur requires Late 2013 or newer
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB - 15-inch model only has 384MB. Since it's a 15-inch model, it should also have a Radeon HD 6490M or a Radeon HD 6750M.

I used OpenCore Legacy Patcher to get Big Sur running, and it works fine!
Also, I'm pretty sure the integrated graphics depend on the amount of memory the system has, in this case 8GB. And I disabled the dGPU using an NVRAM command because stuff didn't look right in Big Sur (blur was not working, dock was translucent but not blurred)

Also it has 14% battery right now I should probably plug it in.

EDIT: The GPU this one had was the Radeon 6490M.

Reminds me, I have an old gateway laptop with hardware that MAY just work fine. I need a USB drive first, working on that. I can wipe Windows clean off my (PC not the gateway) drive and install some good Fedora.

You will also need to do the following.

- Patch the Virtual Machine software (VirtualBox/VMware) to add support for MacOS
- Retrieve either a Recovery or Full ISO (Recovery: 700mb to 2GB, Full ISO 8gb which takes a long time to download).
- Create a virtual machine (no you aren't getting hardware acceleration)
- After installation, do configuration. Make a snapshot (so you won't have to go through the process again if you break the VM. Allows for easy downgrading).

you don't need to patch virtualbox, it can natively run macos on an actual mac

on the virtualbox forums, on MacOS Guests, there is a tool that someone made to convert the .app or something to an ISO. You can't actually download a MacOS ISO.

All MacOS ISO images are unofficial, and should be both used and downloaded with caution. Also, the person didn't specify if they were on a Mac or not. And it's really safe to assume most people don't.

I think so but there is a very very low chance, Apple themselves is working on macOS VMs for Apple Silicon Macs

Probably means for internal testing. Nothing public.

Probably yes, because you can simulate any Apple device, and macOS falls under the category of Macs. Keep in mind that it usually runs simulated devices in windows, not full screen.

Unfortunately as far as I know Simulator won't emulate macOS, mac applications are opened on the mac that is using Xcode, https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/running-your-app-in-the-simulator-or-on-a-device

Also, the Simulator version of these operating systems won't have many features, such as the App Store. Not for most of the reasons you would use an emulator. I used to have Flutter emulator on my computer and I don't think it had the Play Store
