I don't think there is a way to possibly calculate this. That kind of information isn't collected statistically.

I don't think this is something you could find with the API, so it would be pretty much near-impossible to solve (unless I'm wrong).

you can go on a long topic and count the normal pfps and the gifs then you add them both and let's call the sum x.

then, for the percentage of the gifs divide the amount of gifs by the total and you have got a probability (for example 0.05)


to turn it into a percentage multiply it by 100 and add a % at the end and you got your percentage of gif pfps (approximately)

Here's my estimation:

I looked at my followers list and counted 72 users with animated profile pictures in the first 10 pages (a total of 600 users).
That means it's 12% who have animated profile pictures.

Now, the count is not going to be exactly representative of the whole community but you haven't said if you wanted the whole or just a certain portion. If you were to consider everyone, that figure would probably drop to around 1% considering all the accounts made with the default profile picture.
The sample I've taken of my profile should be still useful and relevant as I believe it represents a wide portion of the active community that interacts with others.

I had a look at griffpatch's followers too but it changes too fast to get an accurate result. Griffpatch's followers seems to be around 10%.

i think its 25%
