What is a kumquat?
I have seen repeated references to a “kumquat”, usually pertaining to eating signatures, and/or atrocious spelling and grammar.
This seems pretty weird, but I was about to dismiss it as one of the mysteries of the internet. But then, I decided to look up “kumquat” on Wikipedia:
This seems pretty weird, but I was about to dismiss it as one of the mysteries of the internet. But then, I decided to look up “kumquat” on Wikipedia:
The kumquat appears to be a tree. Now I’m completely confused. Please someone clear this up. Kumquats or cumquats (UK /ˈkʌmkwɒt/; US /ˈkʌmˌkwɑːt/ or /ˈkʌmkwɔːt/) are a group of small fruit-bearing trees in the flowering plant family Rutaceae, either forming the genus Fortunella, or placed within Citrus sensu lato. The edible fruit closely resembles that of the orange (Citrus sinensis), but it is much smaller, being approximately the size and shape of a large olive. Kumquat is a fairly cold hardy citrus.

What is a kumquat?
Yes, I saw the kumquat references too, and I'm just as confused. It's probably just one of those weird things people come up with.

What is a kumquat?
It all actually started as far as I know with @cheadergirl.
I think she came up with it.
I don't know why she did, but either way, the kumquat epidemic spread from there.

What is a kumquat?
The kumquat was first started by @cheddargirl, a scratch team member, when she put in her signature that a kumquat ate it. Even though there really is not defintion of what the kumquat is, we assume it to be an animal, one that changes, eats, or gets poisons by signatures.

What is a kumquat?
The kumquat joke all started at the transition from Scratch 1.4 to Scratch 2.0. When the transition occured, cheddargirl, for some reason could not copy her 1.4 signature to her 2.0 signature. So, she used the “evil kumquat” as an excuse for not having her old signature on the Scratch 2.0 forums. As a result, everyone liked her signature so much that they began to make their own variations of cheddargirl's kumquat signature.
(I hope I said this correctly, but correct me if what I said above wasn't accurate)

Yes, a kumquat is a fruit. Nobody made it up any more than an “apple” or a “pear.” The kumquat appears to be a tree. Now I’m completely confused. Please someone clear this up.
There are other types of fruits with similar names, like a loquat.
Fruits that aren't similar in name but share the same biological family as the kumquat can be found here.
