I want to run 1.4 on my m1 mac(monterey), but it's not running for some reason. is there any place or way I can run 1.4 without downgrading my OS?

Could you elaborate how it's not working? What are you trying and what's happening? I don't think the 1.4 client was even built for ARM (M1). You might be able to run it with Rosetta, but it's not officially supported on Monterey so it's hard to say if it will work out of the box.

Scratch 1.4 runs in a smalltalk VM though, so you could just find a VM you can run on your computer (maybe opensmalltalk? That's the one Squeak uses) and then open the .image with it. Doing that might be a question for the Advanced Topics forum.

I want to run Scratch 1.4 too but it says it needs to be updated by the developer before I can run it.

According to the same page, it cannot be installed on Windows versions newer than 8 (that's wrong, I've used it on Windows 11 several times without issues).

it’s probably outdated info and it actually works on newer versions

I don't think Scratch has ported 1.4 to their Mx architecture; it will only work on Intel
