Is trending weirdly subjective?

First they need to acknowledge the problem, identify the cause, and implement a solution. There doesn't seem much desire to even get past step 1.

But hey, plenty of appetite for silly April Fool's stuff…

Yeah, it is. I'm not entirely sure what factors go into it, but it is only subjective.

Yup the trending page is still as broken as it was 1.5 years ago… Now most of the projects can't be found with the search bar, so they don't even have the chance to appear on the explore page. + the trending page still keeps frozing…

The explore page and the search bar have not been working properly for the last few weeks. Everyone's projects that were shared in the last few weeks can't show up if you search for them with the search bar. (You can search for one of your project and, if it was shared in the last few weeks, it will most likely not show up). When a project does not show up with the search bar, it can't appear on trending are anywhere else on the explore page.

So everyday, a lot of high quality project don't have the possibly to get views because they simply have not been indexed in the search system. This problem is significant and I hope that the scratch team is already working on it!

I think this sums up the trending right now:

Trending when there’s a generic platformer:
Trending when there’s an actually good game:

It has not always been the case. Back in early 2020 (before it broke), the trending page actually showed projects that were trending. Now it's pretty much the opposite. ( For example, a few days ago I saw on trending a project with 0 views and 1 heart from the creator)

Here's a picture of the trending page in 2020 from the wayback machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20200430043434/https://scratch.mit.edu/explore/projects/all

It's really weird how much the trending page have changed in 2 years.

I don't really understand how it is so bad. Literally hundreds of projects from the past few weeks are missing, but some projects somehow get put on there. I'm really baffled why this isn't a higher priority to fix.

I 100% agree. At this point the search bar is completely broken (it does not show projects shared in the last month) which also causes the explore page to be broken. What is a trending page if it can only show 0.1% of the projects? This is extremely frustrating for both project creators and regular scratchers. If this problem is not fix now, it’s a matter of time before high-quality games and animations creators discourage themselves and leave. Some of them work for years on a project just to share it and see that it does not appear on the search bar which means that it will never appear on trending because of a glitch. This problem needs to be the priority before it’s too late.

I think I found something (first noticed by Joeyfnaf2005)! It seems like the project ID have something to do with the current problem with the search bar! Every project with an ID higher than 650 000 000 seem to not have the ability to get on trending or to show up when you search for them.

Even if you go in the RECENT tab, the project all have an ID below 650 000 000 :0

Well I'll test it..

I just shared two projects on my test account, with the same name. One of them has a project ID from a long time ago and has never previously been shared. The other is a new project.

We'll see if either of them appear on search…

I had the same idea! Let’s see what happens!

Look at the post #647 on this topic. I saw a project with no view on the 2 second page of trending. This happens because most of the project can’t appear on trending due to an issue with the search indexer.
