When will there be a scratch 4.0?

My Thoughts

to me a feels like it's 2025 because notice every six years there is a new version!

scratch 2.0 came out in 2013 then 6 years later 2019 came! then the six years after 2019 is 2025. so I think it's obviously 2025!

No, it will only come when JavaScript or HTML or both die which is in 37475747 years. The 6 years thing is just a coincidence.

Not possible! if so, if the scratch team was planning it in 9004904994039024304320924 yearrssss, there would be no scratch 4.0 because all of them

Some information from a past thread

Using the past three dates from the versions, I have extrapolated the dates that the next few updates should be coming out. Scratch 5.0 should be coming out shortly after 2030 based on your assumption that one update comes in 6 years. So have we predicted the future!?

No.

As you know, Scratch has gotten bigger over the past few years, meaning that it gets more and more difficult to get new updates without breaking everthing. Scratch 1.x had a huge surge in updates because it was new, Scratch 3.0 didn't have as many updates because it's hard to implement any on a huge site like this.

So, the line would look more like a curve, representing slowing progress. And besides, it'll be a long, long time until we get to Scratch 4.0 as 3.0 isn't even finished, don't start making plans yet :(

Yeah, the Scratch Team has said multiple times that they don't have plans to make Scratch 4.0 yet. They made Scratch 3.0 because the Flash player Scratch 2.0 ran on was going to stop working, not because they want to make a new version of Scratch every ~6 years.

However, that's not to say we won't get any updates to Scratch 3. A lot of people make suggestions of “new features for Scratch 4.0,” when really, the Scratch Team can just add the features to Scratch 3. If there's some kind of feature you think would be great in Scratch 4, then the Scratch Team can add it just as easily to Scratch 3.

well, thanks for the flash part because, they POSSIBLY need to be making 4.0 since flash isn't even supported anymore! because no one on a scratch

has a flash version for example-

My browser / operating system: ChromeOS 14388.61.0, Chrome 98.0.4758.107, No Flash version detected

see? no flash version look at yours.

Yep, no flash: My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Firefox 99.0, No Flash version detected

Scratch 3 runs on JavaScript instead of Flash which is why it still works.

Look at the date, guys, it’s not that hard. April 31 isn’t a real date.

Anyway, there is no definite date as for when, since a major version jump usually means incompatible changes with previous versions, such as a drastic project file system change. Why would they do that now?
