Why do schools block inspect element?

The main reason is because you can change your score or run scripts to cheat from the console tab (an example would be kahoot)

In the 3rd grade me and my friend would always do strange things with the inspect element to make it look like we were hackers.

Then they blocked it.

In all seriousness I think it's that they probably have no idea how techy their students are and disabled it just to be safe, and they thought some students might change their grades or break websites, without knowing that you cant really do that very easily with devtools.

It's possible but probably very hard on most websites.

There are definitely worse ways you could exploit DevTools on school devices. Google Forms has a “locked mode” that locks your device to the tab you're on so you can't cheat on quizzes that are administered through Google Forms. I don't doubt this could be circumvented through DevTools, which is something that schools obviously won't want.
I did some research and found that locked mode only works on Chromebooks, so DevTools probably can't bypass it..
It can't be bypassed at all. Unless, of course, people use Lacros and the desk bar flag is enabled. But then, that's not even in the Chromium issue tracker, so it's probably not exploited.

Why do schools block inspect element?

I think there are a few reasons schools block inspect element.

Some kids at my school would use inspect element on their school laptops in front of their parents to show them better grades than they actually got, and later on my school caught on and blocked it, so that's why it's blocked at my school.

Another reason may be because school staff likely does not inspect element is, so it seems “hacky” to them and are likely afraid that it might be used for malicious purposes.

Because of “hacking” or that type of nonsense. That's what they assume. I mean, you could look at your online assignments and try to find a way to manipulate your scores or something like that

I honestly don't know besides “hacking”
but inspect only changes the look of a website
maybe schools should do more research before blocking things

Yeah exactly. They just assume that something is bad and just BOOM, block it.
Like what they did to Turbowarp last week. They assumed it was for games, even though it's just a Scratch project player with a different look. I miss Turbowarp…

oof they blocked forkphorus for me
For me they blocks all github pages sites. Including forkphorus.

My school blocked inspect element, has Securly and iBoss, blocked Linux, blocked installing extensions on Chromebooks, and most of them have practically no space left so it's annoying when trying to screenshot or do anything where you have to install something. I don't have to use one for homework. However, Securly is annoying.
