Installing Linux simplified, WUBI utility
Benefits of this method:
- You don't need to look up what keys to press to access boot menu
- You don't even need media, (DVD or USB).
First, you'll need to Download Ubuntu 20.04
Then, you'll need wubi (uefi up to date community continuation). This release
Make sure the ISO file and wubi executable are in the same directory, simply run the wubi executable and put in the information the utility requests. Then it will install Ubuntu alongside Windows, no hassle. After the utility is finished, reboot your system. The Ubuntu installer will finish the process, then reboot. You will see a blue screen with a selection of Windows or Ubuntu, if you want to boot Ubuntu later just boot into Windows.
The extensive integration is what makes this method great for new users. It just, installs with a basic utility. And whenever you turn on your PC, you get a familiar Windows Boot Manager OS selection screen with Ubuntu or Windows. When booting into Ubuntu, all your Windows files will be auto mounted in the file manager. This tight integration helps you use Windows to get your work done, and tinker with Ubuntu without at all affecting Windows.

(#2)You might have to read up on the utility if you use legacy BIOS. The “uefi” in wubiuefi probably states that it supports newer systems, and still supports older most likely.

Disclaimer: You cannot get releases above 20.04 with this method, so in April 2025 this method will become obselete. You can manage to upgrade from 20.04 to a later LTS release if that is what you so desire.

VMs are also slow and sluggish.

do you really expect python (an interpreted and slow language compared to c) running on 32bit arch linux running on your browser which is running on your operating system to print out hello world in less than 10 seconds? it sure is slow, but linux is linux and this topic is meant to be for the easiest method to try linux, which v86 can do (run ./networking.sh to even get access to the internet!)this is easier https://copy.sh/v86/?profile=archlinuxv86 is comically slow. https://assets.scratch.mit.edu/5372843190aa1ead778bd92b17458cc2.png

Linux Mint kept having problems with storage despite having ~85 GB free on my drive, will I have the same issues with Ubuntu?

(#14)Considering they are different distributions it could be fine.

Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, which is what I was thinking. But you never know unless you try, right…(#14)Considering they are different distributions it could be fine.

(#19)Irrelevant, this is bare on hardware, that's a VM. VMs are slow, I'm sick and tired of this. Stop, either make suggestions or don't post at all. This topic isn't (name everything easier than installing on hardware) its about an easy way to install Linux on your computer.
WSL much easier
