Yes!! No rule for no joke topics
I recommend you don't do that, or it will turn into a rule (I speak from experience)

My thoughts were already stolen
Why? I don't think ST is that evil…
It always happens (irl)
okay, i think that some aprol fools jokes like rick rolls and jumpscares are okay, but there is one thing i absoluely hate. social media project mocking. if you make a thread and block a certain person from it just to mock them, it can lead to very bad problems, like rumors or negative publicity. that is a very uncool joke, and its not even a joke at all in my mind.

Hmmm small minority… I wonder who it was
Yeah, I do as well… maybe this one will have to remain unsolved

Seriously though, please do not do anything like that again this year - it affected April Fools day last year with the Suggestions new topic button getting taken down and controbuited to the spam overall, which is the reason for this big desicion here.

If only this dumb, unfunny and pointless “E” meme did not exist…

okay, so I will say, I don't quite get the whole thing with spam being a problem. Spam is just an over abundance of mail! So, there must've been something else with the whole spam bit for 4/1. Get back to me.

but it did give us information like the ST is gonna be annoyed at the small minority and the ST can shut down forums.

The main problem is that spam makes it extremely difficult for moderators to clean up the forums once April Fools is over. Cleaning up the normal April Fools topics is already hard enough for them.

That said, disallowing April Fools topics is an extremely bad solution to the problem. Measures need to be taken against spam topics, not normal joke topics.

Yes, I see… So, what does it mean to “clean up” the forums?

Removing spam/inappropriate posts or topics/insignificant posts/troll topics, etc.

What if there was a separate forum (like Questions About Scratch, probably not a whole other collections of forums) on April Fools day for joke topics, and then the next day the ST would just delete the forum?
Too much work for the ST, they can't just simply create that in 2 weeks.
I would assume the forums have an admin panel where they could create a forum in like 5 minutes.

You’re probably right but how about posting something in Show and Tell instead? The Scratch Team wants us to make projects instead of forum topics, but any project that follows the guidelines can be legitimately advertised in ‘Show and Tell”.

So, if I understand the rules, If I make an ‘announcement’ project that Microsoft has purchased Scratch, I can make a Show and Tell topic: “Annoucement: Microsoft buys SCRATCH. Click here for more information”. And then have that topic link to my project that celebrates this change.

Or a suggestion type topic in Show and Tell “Let SCRATCH Patreon users be admins - details inside” and then have a project where you list all the reasons why this would be a great idea.

There's been a lot of controversies. Despite this post:

Paddle2See wrote:

cheddargirl recently closed a topic in suggestions stating “Don't ban fun!”, so that may be a big sway into no joke topics. I don't know when the meeting will be commenced, nor do I know what the result will be. But please don't be surprised if joke topics are banned. It's sad, but it could happen…

Post 7 of this topic (I believe)was just an opinion, though, but post 60 of the Don't ban fun topic actually closing it seems like it's official. However, cheddargirl is the only one I've seen expressing this opinion, so you may see joke topics in 11 days. We'll just have to wait until the meeting for a final answer.

I feel like this is a reasonable request. Joke topics tend to get really annoying real fast (I made one last year and after that I got bored with the jokes lol), and users might actually want help on April Fool's. Besides, April Fool's projects have more creative opportunity than joke topics, imo.

I think the previous thread has outlived its useful life. We understand your frustration and want to be sure everyone can have fun on April Fools, but the whole forum moderation team agrees that previous years were much too spammy. That includes me and Paddle2See. We're still discussing what we think an optimal solution might be and will update you as soon as we can. In the meantime, I'd like to ask that you not come to us individually trying to get a ruling from us. While you're allowed to ask us to reconsider things, we make decisions as a team and its disrespectful to try to pit us against each other. We'll let you know when we've decided on a suitable arrangement.

If you want to discuss what is and is not suitable for AF activities on the forums, this topic would be a good place to look instead. Just please remember to stay on-topic.
