On April Fool's Day, how far can joke topics go?

I agree that the spamming was totally out of hand last year. I even had to shut down a few areas for a period of time - which may have interfered with normal forum operations. So that was too much.

However, I've enjoyed some of the more carefully crafted prank topics and don't see why they have to stop. I guess we'll have to have a Scratch Team meeting to come to an agreement.

I do suggest that joke topics only be permitted in non-constructive forums so users can get help while some can have fun

Thank you! I'm glad to see that this isn't final.

I feel like saying this would be banning fun is a stretch, normal forums can be decently fun and rewarding on its own

Especially with my semi-unique style of finding the most random ways to say things, and adding genuinely unnecessary jokes on top of quotes for no reason

Don't do it. We don't want a repeat of last year where a lot of users were denied help because the forums got flooded and mods spent a lot of time cleaning up instead of other reports. You're better off making an April Fools project instead of a joke forum topic.
So the reason for that was spam right? lots of topic created in a short amount of time? why not allow users to make a few topics and keep posts mainly in that topic? in that case if it goes out out hand you can quickly close or dustbin the entire thread.

What if there was a separate forum (like Questions About Scratch, probably not a whole other collections of forums) on April Fools day for joke topics, and then the next day the ST would just delete the forum?

Too much work for the ST, they can't just simply create that in 2 weeks.

That sounds like a lot of hard work for the ST. Also, why would they have to take forever to make a forum, just to archive and/or delete it at 12 AM (North American time)?

She wasn't talking about spam, she was talking about disallowing joke topics in general.

Another method is to be extremely strict on spam topics. If a person is making spam topics, place a short temporary ban on them that expires when April fools day is finished

Yes, if it follows the community guidelines. Try making one or maybe two thought-out joke topics instead of seventeen. Especially when in QaS. It’s probably okay to be a bit less strict about this in some forums like TIMaC, but just in general don’t spam.

Sorry but joke topics should not be discouraged, there are only 2 days a year to have some banter on the forums instead of being serious all the time, and I am sure a lot of people realised that it was not a normal day on the forums, or scratch. Most people did joke topics fine, and there was just a small minority who thought it was acceptable to spam.

Spam is in the community guidelines.
On April fools day, A joke topic is not considered to be a spam topic.
I more mean that, to make a joke topic that fits the community guidelines, make sure the joke has an actual meaning to it and make sure the joke follows the community guidelines.

I recommend you don't do that, or it will turn into a rule (I speak from experience)
