Can't import music

I'm working on a little project with a friend, and we ran into a problem, we'd try to upload a .mp3 file and it would show up, but when I tried to play it it would stop right away. The equalizer was just a straight line, which means it wasn't supposed to play any sound, and it said the time was 0:00:00. Any help?

What file format were you trying to upload? Also, about how big was the music file? Both of those can effect importing, which is why I'm asking, if you're wondering. Hopefully we can get this resolved.

If you can help, that'd be great, Ernie. It's an MP3 format, which might have something to do with it. I've used mp3s before, it would convert them automatically, but Scratch seems to have stopped doing that. The file size is 1.64 MB, that may have something.

1.64Mb is pretty small so unlikely to be the cause. Do you know what sample rate the mp3 file is? Not sure about version 2 but remember that 1,4 would only take certain sample rates.
If you have audio software can you re-save it at different sample rates and try those instead?

Hmmm… could you by chance get the music to us through Dropbox or something other like that? Sorry if this whole process of problem-finding may seem a bit long.

Haha, that's perfectly fine that it's taking long. I have all the time in the world. Anyway, click here for the audio file. It's a song from the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack.

I think it's the sample rate. I'd recommend downloading a sound editor and try saving it at different sample rates.

Not the sample rate, I tried changing it lower and lower, then higher and higher. Never worked.

I still have the same problem, I used clipconverter.cc and made it 32kbps, and I've tried 96kbps before that, still doesn't work. 128kbps quality's file size was somewhere above 4 MB. This shoud really be fixed.

Huh? I used to have this problem and then it got fixed. I didn't think that it would still happen for others.

I have the problem too. I try to add in dubstep, Spongebob squarepants move Im ready depression, barrel roll song, and kirby gourmet race in. They don't work. I then can upload benny hill, carameldansen and other songs with the same file formatting. Some files can upload, some cant even with the same ile data other than length. I know lenght isn't the problem so can anybody help out?
Thanks

Use .WAV files as they tend to work well as audio files on Scratch.
