Let's… Not get into ships here.
But FeenRis-
I don't want any shipping to be started, regardless of whether I agree or not.
I don't really agree, but you get the idea.
Funny, I was about to talk about why I think 99% of Ace Attorney shipping is bad and how annoying it is that people would rather ship characters even though what’s actually canon is 100 times more compelling.
Yeah!! I hate it when I go to look for some actual substance and the fans are just like fUnNy WrIgHtWoRtH cRiNgE, nArUmAyO, tRuPolLo, KlApOlLo, JuNiPoLlO, jUniThEnA, cYkEsQuIlL.

I like it when there are ACTUAL CANON relationships, they even tear those down, and if you want to ship others, then fine! I won't be REALLY bothered, but when you try to make it out to be actual canon and confuse me, then I get a little frustrated.

I also get frustrated when I'm looking for some great fan art and more than half is shipping art.
Or things that shouldn't even BE in the shipping part are tagged with it.
I saw some fanart of Miles Edgeworth as a child (My favorite part of AA, hands down are him and his father), and get this, no Phoenix Wright to be seen, yet it's tagged Narumitsu, look, it would have been more related to the drawing if they tagged it with Dangonronpa (no offense to those who play it) or freaking Manfred Von Karma, they don't know their boundaries, I think I'd peg the whole thing as the fandom just being smaller than others and you see more of that, but I have a feeling there's a part like that for every fandom, just look at the Sonic fandom- no wait… Don't do that, it's possibly worse.

Okay… I do have a little shipping of my own, but I NEVER try to make it out to be actual canon, all I'll do is try to fit it into the canon as if it could be, plus, they're mostly just characters that probably should exist but just haven't been shown ever, only implied because others exist, like we all know Miles Edgeworth has had a mother, it's great to imagine what she was like or who she was.

The bottom line is, most of the shipping in Ace Attorney is meaningless conjecture brought on by the shipper's own loneliness and no experience of actual relationships or how they work, also having never had a working relationship or an admiration to another person.
Not to mention fans of anything in general like to ship rivals and enemies because it's edgy or something.

I'm glad to have finally said this, before this it was mostly silent irritation (or should I say internal screaming).

Also, isn't Trupollo disgusting?? They're half siblings, that don't live in Alabama with their legal system.

Gonna have to agree here. It's less that I dislike the concept of shipping and more that I dislike the fact that people never shut up about it. Somebody actually, I kid you not, wrote a extremely long essay on why Wrightworth was “canon”. It was baseless conjecture pretending that regular interactions were romantic. For being fans of a game that's all about evidence, they sure can't provide any, lol. I mean, I won't lie, I have pairings too but I would NEVER insist they would actually happen. (also thanks for the internal screaming image at the end, totally gonna use that)
I'm glad we're all on the same page about this (especially the thing about the evidence, I've thought that so many times!!), as I said, I have pairings too, and many a time have I seen those on YouTube or other places with the same pairings as mine and they were hated and others caused arguments, I kid you not, I some commenter once that caused an argument by being hateful and towards the end of it, they said “hey, I'm not the one that started this, I'm just trying to defend myself”. Urrrghh…
Anyway, I've also seen ones that share the same ships as me get hateful, which would make me look bad in a way, I think…

But I feel I need to mention that AA isn't the only fandom that does this, Final Fantasy fans can and will do the same thing, when once again… The game is much better when you're not trying to push Clerith- Ships into it, it's kind of different there, because the people handling the game seem to ship many of the popular ships too and they make teases to both sides of the coin, adding to the arguments and discord in the fandom.

(I'm glad you like my meme, I think it's even on ImgFlip now.)

It was all a joke. Also Pearl Fey is technically a MayaWright shipper.

Finally, someone else gets it.

I’d like to add:
Personally, I headcanon characters like Miles Edgeworth and Herlock Sholmes as aromatic so I’m already biased against two of the series’ most popular ships.

I also think the series being a crime drama and you don’t really see characters outside of a professional environment makes any romantic situation people put the lawyers in feels kind of forced with the exception of Mia X Godot.

Finally, Apollo doesn’t like Klavier at all, so why are they such a common ship? It makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I don't get Klavier and Apollo either, the only thing I can think of is that people love to ship mortal enemies because it's “romantic” or something. When in reality, once two sworn enemies become a couple, they're no longer enemies and it ruins the whole dynamic.

Klavier and Apollo aren't mortal enemies per se… But they still really dislike each other, shipping them is like shipping the small picked on kid with the school bully.

There are many ways it ruins things, I am 99% sure that if a defense attorney and prosecutor were to have a relationship, they couldn't go against each other in court anymore, because either one of them could become biased towards the other and the court system wouldn't work, and we would no longer have their perfect rival dynamic.

You’re totally right (not pun intended).
That being said, good pairings do exist like Gumshoe and Maggey (the closest thing to a canon ship the series has), Godot and Mia (this actually adds to Godot’s tragic backstory and character arc), and Athena and Juniper (this works because they’re already friends but some of Juniper’s dialogue, if I remember correctly, does imply she has feelings for Athena).

Let’s keep the hot take train going:

I don’t really want an Ace Attorney 7. I would much rather have more side stories. I’d take Investigations or Great Ace Attorney 3 any day over a new main line game. Maybe give another character their own game (Herlock Sholmes: Investigations would be amazing). Heck, another Professor Layton crossover would be really cool. Even though I liked Spirit of Justice, I can’t help but feel feel like the Phoenix Wright saga is running on fumes. I think the series should reboot either with an entirely clean start or a reimagining of the first game (what this could entail is an entire post’s worth of ideas from my end). Capcom probably wouldn’t do this due to it being a hard sell, but it’d be neat to see an attempt to branch out with an entirely new story that’s completely separate from Phoenix Wright.

If Ace Attorney 7 turns out to be a thing, I’ll probably still play it and maybe the writers will take me by complete surprise, finding a way to justify continuing the stories of Phoenix and Apollo that I would have never though of. However, I think they should just give Athena her own game. It’s about time she got to shine on her own without being allocated to a single episode.
Bumping this to shift the discussion away from shipping.

I’m gonna say it. The 3DS games would be so much better with Apollo Justice. Next to nothing from his game really matters and I just don’t like his character. He’s so uninteresting. I liked Spirit of Justice a lot but in hindsight the game would have worked just fine with just Phoenix and Maya solving cases together like old times. Obviously the story would have to be altered and possibly made less complex but I think the unique setting would make up for a simple narrative. Also, almost every character you meet in Khura’in is important to the plot so it’d be cool to see some one-off characters, I think there’s a lot of potential there. The one time Capcom did something interesting with Apollo, it wasn’t needed.

I haven’t beaten Investigations 2 yet but the game’s story feels like an excellent conclusion to the series, which is why I’ve become kind of salty towards Apollo Justice. It’s been my least favorite game in the series for awhile but its flaws become more and more apparent each time I think back about the game. It’s the opposite of my experience with Justice for All. With that game I wasn’t a huge fan of it not really having a strong overarching narrative like the first game, other than Edgeworth’s disappearance and possible death, with the cases being mostly standalone. I also didn’t like Franziska. Her whipping people got old incredible fast and it wasn’t that funny in the first place. Also, this game has the infamous Turnabout Big Top. However, looking back on Justice for All I realized that the difficulty was perfect, for me at least, not too easy but there were no obtuse solutions or attempts to mess with the player by thinking they got something wrong when they close the correct option, this game has two of the best cases in the entire franchise (Episodes 2 and 4), the life bar is so much better than having five strikes, and it introduced the Psyche-locks which is one of my favorite gimmicks in the series. I still think it’s the weakest game of the original trilogy but it’s still amazing.

I totally agree, the AAI2 story's compelling, although the whole thing sort of takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and really shows you what kind of a man Miles Edgeworth is. Then in Apollo Justice, he's no where to be seen, not even mentioned?

May I also mention Miles Edgeworth was also sort of botched in DD and SOJ, I haven't quite proved this, but I feel like they did, my sister says he's nice to Athena Cykes but that's about it.

Not to mention the gameplay in which I feel more like I'm free rather than in a box, examining one area for evidence while the other side of the room goes unchecked.

To be fair, AJ's story had literally nothing to do with Edgeworth, so cramming him in there would just seem unnecessary.

And what do you mean by “botched”? He seemed fine to me-

So, I've been looking through several pages of concept art for Ace Attorney characters.
Somehow, nearly all of Dahlia's concept designs look better than the final design.

I haven't seen a lot of gameplay, but that's the impression I got. I know I could have been very wrong.
