HIde the like/favorite counter, upon also making scratch more "mental health" friendly

Slightly off-topic, but YouTube didn't hide the dislike to accommodate for those with mental health issues, they only removed it so big companies would stop getting dislike bombed because their products or advertisement sucked (which having the dislikes hidden causes the companies and YouTube to earn more money). I have a feeling 99% of people on YouTube dislike that change.

Although with that out of the way, I'd say support but only if it were an option (which is something you brought up in your post)

I feel like it would be nice for someone to hide them if they want to, however not everyone may want likes and favorites disabled.

Semi-support: the counters could be used for competition, but:
1. People don't like YouTube's way of implementing it because the creator still can see dislike counts, and dislikes are a way of seeing if a video is worth watching since you can't depend on likes alone
2. The API would still contain the count and can be easily accessed from there

These buttons have always been here and they allow users to give their opinions. They don't make Scratch a social media site.

I disagree. Some people are treating it as a social media site… And that is a problem.

Also, here is the thing (a tad bit off-topic), it doesn't matter how many likes or favorites you have, YOu still are a scratcher. SO PLEASE, DO NOT ASSUME THAT SCRATCH IS SOCIAL MEDIA. IT IS A PLATFORM WHERE YOU CAN LEARN CODING, NOT DO ANY OF THIS (censored)!

How is that a problem? (I don't see it…)

Well yes, but actually no.

No support, love and favs don't make scratch social media, it's just a way of providing feedback. If this demotivates someone because they are not getting as many as they want then it's their fault. Not getting loves and favorites most of the time just means they didn't try hard enough.

Semi-Support. If it's just a toggle under account settings, then I don't see the issue. I'm not fully on board because loves and favorites are positive forms of feedback. As to mental health issues, that's a problem with social media in general. I know it's hard to stay away from social media, but it feels way better when you do.

Also, the whole YouTube dislike button thing is a legit issue. Say, for example, you watch a tutorial video. If for whatever reason you can't see the comments, the dislike button is a pretty good indicator of whether it's helpful or not.

If people want to treat it that way, hiding the love and favourite counters will only make everyone unhappy. Think about the time when Scratch removed the Discuss tab.

I thought this suggestion was about comments lol. No support, because a like and favorite counter is not negative, and shouldn't cause any “low self-esteem”. There are 83,017,116 users registered right now and growing as you read this. That means, it's very unlikely for your projects to get viewed out of random. If there was a dislike button, I would 100% support this, but this is kind of unnecessary. Besides, you can use an element blocker extension to block the like and favorite counter if it's a problem for you.
Adding to this, not everyone like/favorites a project when they see it. The like/view ratio will probably never be perfect. Also, the quoted post was pretty combative, and I apologise for that.

No, not really.
You can have top quality projects with very little loves and favorites and lower quality projects with high loves and favorites.

No. There is already no dislike or down-vote in Scratch so there is nothing negative already. The worse case scenario is that the project just doesn't get much views in the first place. And mental health friendly? Whats so anti-mental health?

But your post says that Scratch needs to be more mental-health friendly. So you just said that because you can?
