*Mockup* Scratch Desktop for Windows 11 redesigned UI!

Why wouldn't this work on other platforms?

Some features of the Windows 11 UI are only possible in Windows 11, and not Windows 10 (e.g. the App Surface Mica effect)..
… and some wouldn't work at all on other platforms, or would be difficult to implement by the Scratch Team (e.g. the Acrylic Blur effect on the titlebar I used currently only works in Windows 10 and 11.)

How is this possible if the Scratch app is made in HTML (Electron)?

Actually, the Microsoft Teams app on Windows 11 is also HTML, it uses Edge WebView2 rather than Electron like Scratch, which allows the Microsoft Teams app to have Acrylic, Mica, and the other effects that Windows 11 uses, and all of this via native code, while still being a HTML web app thanks to Edge WebView2. It's not impossible that the Scratch app could switch to Edge WebView2 instead of electron if this were to be implemented.

Now onto the suggestion…

Windows 11 is out now and I think Scratch Desktop (the Microsoft Store app) could update soon to utilize the new Windows UI guidelines in its app's UI!

Windows 11 apps adapt to your wallpaper.

OLD TOPIC: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/547207/ (This was an older mockup, and now I moved this suggestion here because the mockup was updated., and I want the discussion to be around the new mockup.)

While I like the icons on the block pallete I think it would look nicer if there was text as well.

I guess it made to match with Windows 11.. I really would appreciate if the ST takes this design seriously

Support, even though I don’t use windows 11 yet, it looks great! It reminds me of windows 7 and vista with the windows aero theme.

It looks cool, although windows 11 almost broke my computer and I barely got it to work by chance and it wasn't worth it in my opinion, the new editor looks better than the windows 11 UI honestly.

Although, not everyone uses windows 11 or even windows at all. I think it should just be a general update to the editor.

So, I LOVE it, the world isn't ready for it, but it should be for EVERYONE, including the website.

I mostly support this idea because although the mock-up nearly fits the “quiet” UI style of Windows 11, I think the icons are confusing and need text to show more significance to which block category you are choosing.
Overall, it looks great, but just like what other people have said, the icons for the block palette are barely specific and some text would specify which block category you're selecting.

The block category's text would still show above the blocks!

Unfortunately, in any other operating system this would be a lot harder if not impossible,

and the original poster knows this, since they are suggesting this UI update exclusively for Windows 11.

As if all the other people who used different devices and operating systems just didn't exist, or just don't matter, stuck with the old design.

This wouldn't be so much of an issue if it just added the iconic Windows 11 window translucency too. This is a complete overhaul of the design and UI elements, even going as far as to changing the block content itself to include more modernized symbols.

It isn't even necessary, it's not like Windows 11 introduced a fatal bug in the Scratch Desktop program, making it unusable. It is none of that. It is entirely “let's make this look more Windows 11 because why not”.

It's not like outbursts of rage would pop up within the Scratch community.
It's not like Scratch will be divided.
It's not like the community will go against themselves over operating systems and the like.

This suggestion completely leaves out everybody who doesn't have Windows 11. “Don't have the specs / money to get Windows 11? Oops, no modern version for you!”. Before you apply that logic to Scratch in general, there isn't a way to resolve that. You could, however, never create difference in the first place to resolve the former.

Not to mention how it would negatively impact the people who use the new editor as well.
Sure, they will get used to it, but the new interface would impede their productivity / fluency for a short while nonetheless. For no reason might I add, whilst neglecting everyone else too. I'll go more in depth on the changes to the UI that would be unfriendly to both fluent Scratchers and new Scratchers. Here are two examples.

The absence of category names and colors in the leftmost bar will force users to learn the different symbols and what they point to.
The absence of down arrows in the blocks that include enumeration input will, by chance, leave new users unknowing of the different possible inputs.

Here's an extra tidbit: due to the ever slightly different blocks if they are ever going to implement 3.0 blocks in the forums there would need to be two different versions of the scratchblocks tag to accommodate the Windows 11 version and the original version.

Here's a question: both the Scratch Desktop and the new Scratch Desktop would work on Windows 11, so what would happen? Would there be this exclusive download link that shows up on Windows 11 devices on the download page? Would it replace the download link? The better option would be the first, in my opinion. Restricting access to the original Scratch Desktop on a device that supports it is both enforcing the new design regardless if the user wanted it or not and restricting access to a version of the Scratch editor that would work perfectly otherwise.

If it weren't blatantly obvious already, no support.

And to anyone replying to this specific post, do not disregard my entire argument over one of my points. Just because I get one of my points incorrect or just because one of my points are weak does not mean my entire statement is refuted.

I don't support this.
Honestly, I don't really like the Fluent UI guidelines, and if this is implemented, I would really like a toggle to switch back to the normal Scratch design.
Scratch's normal design is really playful-feeling and inviting. The Windows 11 design you proposed loses a lot of those qualities.

Now that I think about it…

I've re-reviewed the idea and…
The idea might not be suited for Windows 11, but…

I definitely semi-support this idea.

Honestly, some people are missing the point that the update is mainly for the desktop APP, not the website (although I wouldn't mind it on the website). Also, for people who are worried about OS wars and the like, nobody is going to be complaining about not having an app design that doesn't even match their OS. But I think I take back my point on having it on the website unless it has a toggle as the Windows UI doesn't match the scratch website.

I still like the Idea however because the design is more modernized and sleek whereas the current design, though I like it, is slightly hefty and isn't what you think of when you think of coding.
