Convert to MP3 Button
A button which converts the audio to MP3, to take up less space in the project, such as the Convert to Bitmap button.

Why don't you do that yourself? There's a lot of converters online.

Support because scratch sometimes converts audio to .wav and that can take up a lot of project spaceI agree. Scratch should have an mp3 converter. It's always annoying when .wav files use up too much storage, causing Scratch to show a message saying “Project could not save”, due to the Scratch project exceeding the 10 MB limit.

Scratch 3 has no size limit. there's a per asset size limit of 10MB, but converting between wav and mp3 wont magically make your audio file smaller- its best to convert it yourself at a lower bitrate.Support because scratch sometimes converts audio to .wav and that can take up a lot of project spaceI agree. Scratch 3 actually does not convert mp3 audio files to .WAV upon import like Scratch 2 does- Audio files when imported into scratch 3 are not modified at all unless you make a change to it in the audio editor. Thus, you can have much higher quality audio than in scratch 2 at the cost of having to compress it yourself.
I don't really see a need to convert audio to different file types from within scratch thanks to scratch 3's increased flexibility.

For some reason, i remember hearing that this wont happen because of copyright or something, but this might be from something else.

Scratch 1.4 had a similar feature (Edit → Compress Sounds).

Sadly, this is not viable. While it would be helpful, MP3 converters take a lot of time and energy to program. This not only would be hard to implement for the scratch team, but it may cause additional lag as well.

I actually do think this should be a feature. The button shouldn't be clickable when the audio is already MP3, and should be clickable when it is not. This will allow people to edit long sounds without them becoming drastically larger permanently and forcing them to shovel drop it into bits.

No support. Just rename the file extension from .wav to .mp3

Oh, why not use a converter then? It's really not that hard.

Here you go. It's secure, fast, and doesn't give you a virus.
