Petition for a scratch dark mode.
Dear Scratch Team,
I, and a majority of scratch users believe that a dark mode would be beneficial for the site, and a previous discussion proposed the idea of a dark mode for the editor. However, I believe a dark mode for the full site would be better. Here is a list of reasons why, followed by several quotes from scratchers supporting this idea.
Main reasons why Dark Mode is a good idea:
Quotes from scratchers supporting on the other post (best reasons from pages 1-7, as it would take ages to go throough all of them):
Original page, for an editor dark theme (has over two thousand replies and at least a thousand supporters): https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/217797/
Thank you kindly for reading my short letter supporting dark mode, and I hope you agree.
Sincerely,
supergirl3212 (otherwise known as Rose, or Rosebud)

Reason why it benefits you, or scratch in general (valid reasons please): It saves battery life, and when I'm at school my battery is drained very quickly

However, I believe a dark mode for the full site would be better. Here is a list of reasons why, followed by several quotes from scratchers supporting this idea.
Main reasons why Dark Mode is a good idea:
- It saves battery life (For those of us who like to scratch on the go via mobile devices)
Reduces eye strain
Benefits users who code at night
Some scratchers are more sensitive to bright light.
Staring at a bright screen can make you more tired
Quotes from scratchers supporting on the other post (best reasons from pages 1-7, as it would take ages to go throough all of them):
Yeah a dark mode would be nice, because who likes looking at white all day? Not me! So it definitely would be a big improvement!
I absolutely love Scratch, and i'm not trying to hate, but here are the reason dark mode should be implemented :
As @DANISON said, Red and black is better for our eyes.
After staring at a white screen all day, you get tired in your eyes
This is scientifically been proved!say [We want dark mode!]
Just saying, but dark mode does actually save your battery, 'cause white has RGB of 255, which is the highest amount, which, for your device is harder to do because it has to do the white, which, as I said earlier, white has the RGB of 255, which is the highest amount of color, so your device has more trouble doing the color white, while black, on the other hand, has the RGB of 0, so your device can do the color black easier so it takes up less battery.100% Support! It's proven to be healthier for your eyes and for your device's battery! :D
I wouldn't say about battery,
Actually, dark mode would save battery– and here's some evidence. https://www.howtogeek.com/407860/heres-when-a-dark-theme-can-save-battery-power/100% Support! It's proven to be healthier for your eyes and for your device's battery! :D
I wouldn't say about battery, but the eye part is true.
Yes, absolutely has my full support. I'm writing this quite late and the stark white is making my eyes tired…
Support - I love having dark mode on pretty much every program and website I use (with a few exceptions), so I think it'd be a good aesthetic choice as well as a good physical choice since dark mode would help your eyes rest a bit.
Yes! I think the Scratch community would most definitely benefit off of Dark Mode. Sometimes, I will wake up and my eyes are used to the darkness of my room, I'll get on my pc and get on Scratch Editor and I am immediately blinded. So I support this!
#WeWantDarkMode! I support this completely, sometimes if I use Scratch for too long I get really bad headaches, and I believe that dark mode would help that a lot.
Total support!
Occasionally, I use Scratch when it is dark in my room or where ever I use it from. My eyes are sensitive to light, so when it's dark and I use Scratch, even with the brightness setting all the way down, like I usually have it, it is still bright and bothersome to my eyes. This would definitely take some strain off my eyes and my eyes would say a huge thank you if this were implemented!
edit: 100th post! Yay!
Anyway, I just realized I never said anything here, although I've given my support on previous topics like this. As another user said, an option to do this outside the editor would be nice too, and I support since looking at a bright screen for a while (especially at night or in a poorly lit room) can hurt my eyes.
Maybe a “twilight” mode can be added as well? I can see that being quite useful, maybe if a user only wants it partly dark.
100% Support! It's proven to be healthier for your eyes and for your device's battery! :D
HelloSupport,Especially if you're sometimes a late-night programmer like me. In fact we should have night mode not just for the editor, but for the whole website too.
The dark theme existed in Scratch 1x, but the developers got rid of it in 2x.
Why not re-implement it? Sometimes bright white can be straining to the eyes, hence need for an option to enable a dark mode.
Techno
I think having a dark mode would be good, maybe change the blue to red and white to black since blue and white is unhealthy, and red and black is healthy. Or good. I think it sounds wrong but I also think it sounds good! Having an option for it would be nice. #WeWantDarkMode
I say that dark mode would be a very helpful tool to help Scratchers working at night. As seen in DANISON's project, the Scratch colors (Blue and white) are the most unhealthy for the eyes. This is not just a claim from DANISON; scientists have proved this. These proofs are in numerous places, such as the sources listed on DANISON's project. Colors such as those are hard for your eyes, and your device's battery. Turning on a Dark Mode would make Scratching easier on the Scratcher's eyes, and the Scratcher's device. In conclusion, the addition for Scratch to have a Dark Mode would be a helpful addition to help Scratchers who work during the night.

The scratch team hasn't responded to it, and this is regarding the whole site, not the editor. It is fairly common for the Scratch Team not to respond to suggestions, even very popular ones. They are simply letting the community discuss the benefits and drawbacks of them. Additionally, popularity is not an important factor in deciding if a suggestion actually gets implemented; more important factors include whether or not it would further the mission of Scratch, how it could be abused (and if it could be abused, how that could be mitigated), how much development effort it would take to implement, etc. Simply because they haven't responded doesn't mean they haven't thought about it.

I have brought up the Dark Mode suggestions with the development team a few times - they assure me that they are under consideration. However, I do not know when or if they will be implemented.
