To be clear: Bringing up challenges you have had while using or attempting to switch to a Linux distribution, and discussing solutions? Totally cool - that's healthy, valuable conversation. However, dismissing others' problems, looking down your nose at other users with legitimate use cases for not using the Correct OS, or commenting just to start a fight about an OS you're not actually interested in is not a good use of this space.

WHY did you ask for a Chromebook, that's WORSE than what you have.

I didn't ask for a Chromebook. My school gives them to us. (Well I think we buy them cheap through the school). And they're getting upgraded next year so I'll get a new one and then I can do whatever I want with my old one.

They come pre-installed with a restricted version of ChromeOS that the school has complete control over.

Yeah, I think my parents bought it for cheap from the school under probably a contract or something. idk how it works. Probably standard, but I think it's fully ours after how many years.

I'm a mac user and I understand.
They should actually get rid of –no-preserve-root it makes no sense.
If you want to get rid of all your files and your necessary system functions, formatting is better.
